Our Opinion
The Cosbaby line is Hot Toys' answer to the designer platform toy. Basically, it's a take on little kid cosplayers (no...not the Cosby kids – Cosplay kids). It's not of the same quality as their sixth-scale figures – but few are. They are made to be fun, stylized toys, and we've seen Hot Toys release Cosbabys from some great film licenses.
It was over two years ago when I reviewed the Toy Story Cosbaby (S) Series 1. That one was blind boxed, but it included some of the same characters (Buzz, Woody, and the Alien) that are in the second series. Luckily for collectors, all three of those characters feature new sculpts.
Where Series 1 went for basic versions of some of the main characters, Series 2 looks to expand things with looks we only momentarily saw in the Toy Story films. For example, the Rex figure is wearing a space helmet. He wore that in Toy Story 2 when he was playing the Buzz Lightyear video game. And I don't believe either Alien design, Spaceman or Cowboy, was ever a part of the film trilogy.
As far as the six figures, I think that Rex is the standout. That's probably because he most closely reflects his on-screen animated version. I actually like all of the characters...with the exception of Woody. For some reason, the Woody Cosbaby bothers me. I think it's because he has no neck. The animated Woody is tall and lanky, but the Cosbaby Woody is stocky.
Even though these are Toy Story toys, I'd say that they're better suited as collectibles put u on a shelf. There are plenty of small parts for the kids to lose, and the joints are pretty delicate. I would give my two year old three minutes before he loses or breaks something on it (Rex and Evil Dr. Porkchop might last 5 minutes).
