If you thought that the adult Insurgents Wilderness Gruppo (IWG) characters were all alone in their fight against poachers and other environmentally evil types…you were wrong. Patrick Ma and Rocket World have added the IWG Baby Cubs to the already formidable collection of rebellious animals.
There are several retailer exclusives, but the two widely released characters are Ares the Baby Grizzly Bear and Ginga the Baby White Rhino. And for the first time ever, Rocket World has released blank figures for the customizers.
The Baby Cubs line brings back the Rocket World IWG inspired camouflage design. There is a little background reading on the rear of the package. And each figure is secured in a double plastic tray that alleviates the need for any twist ties.
Both Ares the Baby Grizzly Bear and Ginga the Baby White Rhino are
approximately 3.5” in height. Ares has 3 points of articulation (arms
and head), while Ginga has 4 (arms, head and tail). They are made of
both rotocast (the head) and injection molded (body) vinyl. Each
figure is packaged with a pointy stick for roasting either eyeballs or
marshmallows. Personally, I’d probably go with a nice and toasty
marshmallow over a human eye. But that’s just me.
Ares and Ginga are both limited to a run of 500 pieces, and each figure
is individually numbered on the bottom of its’ foot. All of the
exclusives, as well as the blanks, are limited to 100 piece runs.
If you thought that the original line of Insurgents Wilderness Gruppo
characters were cute, then I’m sure you’re just gushing over the Cubs.
(The IWG Cubs…not the Chicago Cubs) Ares (who you might see referred
to as Marcus) is the spitting image of Titus, while Ginga appears to be
a miniature, slimmed down Affonso.
Even though they’re cute, they still have that mean streak in ‘em. How
else can you attest for a stick that you can roast marshmallows (or
human eyeballs) on? It is the perfect accessory, since arming a baby
animal with a gun would be simply irresponsible.
So, the big question I have is “who’ll be next in this line?” While it
doesn’t make sense to replicate all of the IWG in cub form, I think we
all can agree that Hannibal (the Mountain Guerilla) needs to show off
