REVIEW: Stinky the Skunk RoadKLZ
RoadKLZ are a new line of cute little animals that have been accidentally run over by a car. Or maybe a sadistic driver has purposefully run them down. Either way, we’ll be taking a look at Stinky the Skunk – one of those recently deceased critters.
Stinky the Skunk was Drunk
He loved his drinks like a punk
With a beer in his hand
He missed the tricky bend
And that hunk was turned into junk
Stinky the Skunk
Artist: Umesh Shukla
Dimensions: 12” tall
There’s no tag or packaging to speak of.
The current RoadKLZ line consists of seven characters: a frog, cat, skunk, rabbit, cupid, angel and devil. There are plans to add to those, including raccoon and dog plushies. All of the characters feature a similar tire tread and blood spatter on their chest. And, currently, they’re all being handmade by the artist.
This is actually the second line of roadkill inspired plush animals that we’ve seen. Roadkill Toys – out of the UK - features a line of flattened plush animals with blood and guts spewing out of their sides. On the other hand, RoadKLZ puts a tame, almost cute, spin to the otherwise gruesome notion of dead animals left alongside the road.
Holding the Stinky the Skunk plush, the first thing you realize is the softness. It’s more about the stuffing than the actual material. The head is stuffed a little more than the body, but it’s the ideal softness we look for in plushies.
The eyes are simply made of two pieces of thread in an X pattern, while the mouth is a red piece of felt that’s been glued (or stitch witchery’d) onto the face. The tire tread mark and blood spot are hand painted onto the plush, so be careful not to peel or pick them off. This will apparently change to being screen printed once the plushies go into production.
I have very few complaints about the Stinky RoadKLZ plush. I might have liked the tail not be sewn in a static position. And maybe a little more character to the face (possibly a nose?). Overall, though, it’s a 12” tall handmade that you can pick up for $22. There aren’t many of those out there that have a production-quality feel and a cute look to them.
