Uglydolls Lucky Uckys 01

Background

The inspiration for the Uglydoll Lucky Uckys came to Sun-Min and David while roaming the streets of Nakano in Tokyo, Japan as they were searching for old toys and rare collectibles. They imagined spirit guides helping them seek out the rarest hidden treasures and soon after that day, the Lucky Uckys were born.

The Lucky Uckys series is made up on 12 Uglydoll characters in 5 different colors. So, if you're looking to collect the entire set, that's 60 figures.

Our Opinion

I grew up collecting M.U.S.C.L.E. figures as a youngster. The great thing about them was that they were cheap, nearly indestructible, and great little characters. Recently, we've seen a number of companies/artists release mini figures paying homage to those collectibles from the 1980's. With the Lucky Uckys, Pretty Ugly has released the Uglydoll version of the M.U.S.C.L.E. line.

The twelve Uglydoll characters that were chosen for this series represent some of David + Sun-Min's most popular. We've also seen these guys in the three series of Uglydoll Action Figures.

The Lucky Uckys series isn't supposed to be high quality. They run $1.25 each (although only available in a pack of four), which is fairly cheap in the designer toy realm. There's no paint on these figures. And while the sculpting work is pretty good, you'll see some slight irregularities (like the lines on Peaco, above) probably from the injection molding process or the mold itself. Also, there are about four characters that can't stand on their own due to skinny little legs.

The nice thing about the Lucky Uckys is that they are packaged so you can see what Uglys are inside. Although, if you buy them online, you're essentially purchasing a blindbox. But if you can find them in a store, you can search and pick out a package with the characters and colors inside. But at $5.00 per four pack, you can probably pick up a few of them to add to your Uglydoll (or mini-figure) collection.

You can purchase one at the following:

Dragatomi.com: $5.00 pack of 4
Uglydolls.com: $5.00 pack of 4 or $75.00 set of 60
