Background

Every San Diego Comic Con, the Uglydoll booth offers one very special surprise plush Ugly for collectors and fans to purchase…out of those infamous garbage cans. This year, David and Sun-Min introduced us to a special version of Trunko. The usually purple character was launched as First Mate Trunko…a seasick sailor.

Trunko has decided to follow Sailor Babo on his maiden voyage across the seas of the Uglyverse in search of action, adventure and various baked goods.

Trunko has yet to find his sea legs, so he may look more blue than purple while traveling the high seas, but he’s certainly not blue on the inside. At least, not with you at his side.

Trunko uses his winged mittens to keep a lookout for land, and his sailor hat to hide a cookie or two for you.

Our Opinion

If you’ve ever been to a Comic Con (San Diego, New York, Boise…), then you know that the Uglydoll booth is always a jumping place. They usually have a super secret plush or two that, while limited, usually consists of enough pieces for the Uglydoll fans in attendance.

This SDCC, Sun-Min and David combined elements from two of their more popular special edition Uglydolls for their special First Mate Trunko Ugly. You get the little seafaring hat from Sailor Babo as well as the winged mittens we’ve seen sported by Ice-Bat. Trunko also looks a little seasick… his skin has turned from purple to blue; his eyes have gone from white to yellow; his teeth were off white and now they’re pink; his nose went from red to black.

I like that the Uglydoll folks went with a new character as their SDCC exclusive. However, if you weren’t able to snatch one up at Comic Con, it doesn’t appear that there are many options other than ebay.
