Background

The Plaseebo Custom crew, led by head designer Bob Conge, has created and released their first vinyl production piece.  The Legend of Plaseebo figure is encased in his sarcophagus, ready for you to “Awaken” the secret of the mummy.

Unearthed in 1803 AD by British archeologists, Plaseebo roams the earth looking for his homeland.  The figure includes the entire story of the legend, which is informative and entertaining.  It's a must read, but a little too long to reproduce here.

Packaging

The packaging for the Legend of Plaseebo figure is reminiscent to that of kaiju toys.  It’s carded and in a clear plastic bag.  The card is illustrated (by Bob Conge) on both sides, with images of the character.  There is a helpful paper attached, telling people exactly how to un-dent your sarcophagus (in case the face is dented in).

The Figure

The 1st edition of the Legend of Plaseebo figure is limited to a run of
80 pieces.  The actual mummy is cast in glow-in-the-dark vinyl and
has two points of articulation (legs).  It’s 8” long, from head to toe,
and 5” tall when seated.  The 10” long vinyl sarcophagus is full of
brown shredded paper, which makes a bed for the figure.

Packaged along with the figure is The Legend of Plaseebo illustrated
story.  You can unravel the 14”x21” sheet of parchment paper to read
about the background of the figure.

Also, beware of the little, fake fly that’s included with the figure.
You can leave it around the house and scare the kids and/or your
significant other.

Our Opinion

Honestly, I was a little “skeeved out” by the Plaseebo figure when I
first saw a photo of it.  I’m probably not the only one who thought it
somewhat resembles a mummified baby doll.  Then, I actually saw the
figure up close.

The sarcophagus intentionally has a rough look to it.  You can see all
of the tooling marks, as well as the little imperfections.  This lends
to the authentic look of the sarcophagus.

On the other hand, the mummy is without blemishes.  Of course, maybe
there are some…but they would be covered by bandages.  The sculpting work is
great, however there is an issue with some of the paint building up in
the eye sockets (it causes little bubbles).

Overall, this unique figure is one of our favorites of the year.  Really…are there any other vinyl mummy sets out there?
