REVIEW: I Heart Guts
I Heart Guts is the brainchild of an anatomically obsessed illustrator who loves internal organs and all they do. Artist Wendy Bryan has created a line of plush toys based on, well, your guts. Several important internal organs have been given faces, made cuddly, and released as a part of the I Heart Guts plush series.
We have been able to get our hands on six of the newly released I Heart Guts plush organs: Big Brain, Colossal Kidney, Immense Intestine, Powerful Pancreas, Appendix, and Thyroid. While four of them are larger versions of previously released organs, this is the first time we have reviewed the line on Plastic and Plush.

There's background information about the organ, an amusing summary of likes, dislikes, etc., and a checklist of all of the released I Heart Guts plushies.
I always try to think of who a line would appeal to. When I look at I Hear Guts, I think "People who are interested in anatomy" and "People who have had issues with a specific organ" would be at the top of the list. Personally, I like the Appendix plush, because...I don't have an actual appendix.
Four of the I Heart Plush organs (Brain, Kidney, Intestine, and Pancreas) were previously released in a slightly smaller size. These new large sized plushies appear to only differ in size. They're still the same plush pattern. I like how the Brain, Kidney and Intestine (and Appendix) each have a portion that appears to have been sliced off. And the Intestine has a tiny little Appendix hanging off the side (I guess he hasn't had appendicitis yet).
The two new I Heart Guts organs are the Appendix and Thyroid. I think that these will really appeal to folks since they are both organs that can cause people some problems (and aren't always life threatening). They are simpler than the other four plushies we looked at, as they each use one solid plush color as well as the embroidered eyes and mouth.
The workmanship on the entire line is pretty good. I didn't notice any stray pieces of thread hanging from the stitching. All of the eyes and mouths have been embroidered in black. And, of course, the Intestine and Brain feature probably the most complex stitching work.
I also need to make mention of the tag. That's where I Heart Guts stands out from other plush lines. Each character has it's own tag that's fashioned in a booklet. There are some great illustrations and background information interspersed with humor. Definitely one of the best tag designs that I have seen on a plush line.
Overall, I like the I Heart Guts line. I keep coming back to whether or not your traditional plush toy collector will agree with me. They're a little goofy and pretty unique. But I think the most important element is that they could bring a smile to someone who has to battle a serious medical condition.
