Background
On the night of one of the biggest Presidential elections of our time, why not focus on an action figure made of one of the candidates. Jailbreak Toys released their Barack Obama Action Figure based on one of the most energizing politicians of the last 50 years.
Here’s how Jailbreak describes this project:
Like countless others out there, we've been inspired by the meteoric rise of Barack Obama and his campaign. In a time when America so desperately needed a hero, along came a man to show us a brand new vision of what America and the world could be in the 21st century. In many ways, Obama is the closest thing we've ever seen to a superhero... someone who has literally inspired millions of people simultaneously to step past fear, to be brave enough to hope and to go past cynicism and imagine what we could be if we were at our best. That's the stuff of legend! And we wanted to pitch in. In that spirit we created The Obama Action Figure because every superhero should have one.
Packaging
The figure is packaged is a window-front rectangular hanging box. The front is styled similar to the popular Shepard Fairey campaign poster with a red, white and blue Obama. The rear of the package has original artwork featuring Obama pointing towards the sky.
The Figure
The Obama Action Figure stands approximately 6” in height and has 8 points of articulation (neck, waist, shoulders, elbows and wrists). The piece is made of phthalate-free PVC, so it’s a solid figure.
While we are looking at the regular edition version, there is also a blank white (used in the custom show) as well as a Toy Tokyo Exclusive Obama in his Summer Suit.
Our Opinion
Being election night, it might just be a matter of time until this figure becomes the President Barack Obama Action Figure. I guess they can change this to the President Obama Action Figure. The piece is done in a slightly stylized fashion with a head that is a tad disproportionate from its body.
That head sculpt is well done. No one would look at this figure and wonder who it’s supposed to be. It definitely looks like Obama. The piece stands without any balance issues and has joints that allow for it to hold its pose.
While this figure clearly wouldn’t appeal to McCain supports, Obama backers have already used the figure for artistic (and fund raising) purposes. The Art + Action = Obama 08 show was a custom show that used this figure as the medium to help raise money for the Obama for America campaign.
