Gary Baseman is set to release a limited edition run of vacuum-form masks, all hand painted, featuring the Enlightened Chou, the central figure in Baseman’s most recent exhibition La Noche de la Fusion at Corey Helford Gallery. They'll only be available via Baseman's website on Wednesday July 1st at 10AM Pacific time.
The available colors include: purple, black, gold, pink, blue, off-white and silver. Not all colors will be available, so you'll need to pick your top three colors and note them choices in your PayPal transaction. Each mask measures 10"x10" and will run $75 unsigned or $90 signed by the artist (includes shipping for domestic orders).
that's friggin stupid! I love the concept but the price is really dumb! instead of hand painting a super cheap medium and making them really expensive and unusable as a mask unless you like throwing money away. he should have gone the cheap paint job route and stayed true to the mediums dollar store crap origins so you could actually feel comfortable using them and having fun with a fun piece. This really upsets me!
