These variant colorways come packaged randomly. In each of the first two series there were 250 total variants (or around 42 per character). And finding a color variant in Series 3 was even more difficult with only 150 total figures (or about 20 per character).
The variants come packaged in the same window-front box that the normal figures do. Inside of the box, the piece is packaged between dual, interlocking plastic trays. It still includes a foil pack that includes a Mini-Comix.
The Boogily Heads are anywhere between 1.75” and 2.25” in height. They have bobble head action, with a little spring connecting their head to their body. Each piece has a “hands of the artist” feel to it. So you can see little imperfections. But if they were meant to be there, are they really imperfections? Ponder that.
Sometimes, companies go a little too far with variants. A figure is released in every color the rainbow, and those of us who are completists end up dropping hundreds of dollars assembling a complete set. However, that’s not really the case with these rare Boogily Head variants.
Rocket USA sort of kept the variants hush-hush. You don’t see many photos of them, and they only make reference to “rare” versions being available. So it’s not used to influence you to buy more Boogilys…just so you find that rare version.
What do we think of these? Are they better than the originals? Well, if you’re a fan of a specific character, you’ll obviously want to get your hands on one of the variant colors. Since I am a fan of Pumpkin Billy, I think the black and white version is a must-have. But it's definitely worth looking through the packages at your local shop to see if you can snag one of these variant figures.
