The Merit International booth was where you were able to find Dez Einswell's X-Large Gorilla vinyl figures. STD Toys set up shop there to show off the two newest figures from Dez's Doodle Barn. The Green Gorilla is the Comic Con exclusive...and if you forget...just look at his tie, which reads SDCC 2007.

Patrick Ma was showing off his customizing skills in the Rocket World booth. He was creating these custom Titus (from the Insurgents Wilderness Gruppo) using the new Titus sculpt. So what's the difference? The muzzle is a little smaller and the legs are different.
They had a number of exclusives for sale including Wundurra the Eco-Platypus and Hattori the Ninja Snow Monkey, which are limited to 100 pieces and pictured above. Also, the I.W.G. Combat Squad - Septimius and Taharka - are also Con exclusives.

It appears that J from Neth Creatures is going to add some new sculpts to his line...sorta. These animals inspired creatures will have antlers and ears and will definitely be a piece you want to keep away from the kids. Unless you're into broken things...then let them play away! They also had some new designs, similar to last year...a solid color (black instead of white), a metallic (copper instead of silver) and a flocked (yellow instead of brown).

Max Toy Company was one of the first places I rushed to on Preview Night. Between the Eyezon figure and the products Mark Nagata's company was carrying for Cronic...it was tough deciding what to drop money on. Why not all of it?
They also had a number of new - in production type - figures on display. The figure to the left of the Eyezon in the above photo is one of those. Mark will be curating the Toy Karma show at Rotofugi this September, and that figure is sorta the mascot. I'm liking it...even if it's still just a prototype.
Also, the Miao figure, by Zakka Mono, is an interesting piece that's an obvious take on the Maneki Neko statues (also known as Lucky Cat's). There are plans for a Miao featuring the artwork of Simone Legno (tokidoki).

Dark Horse Comics had a number of their designer vinyl figures on display. Lisa Petrucci's line of rotocast vinyl figures is set to begin releasing next month. But the real standout here was Glenn Barr'sHell's Proprietor work. Pictures don't do his figure justice. At 11" in height, it's much larger than I had realized. Also, Barr is working on another line of figures known as his Muses. They're a bunch of little girls riding around in their glass-enclosed spaceships.

Attaboy had a handful of his 20 Qwezshuns on display, but half of the 20 were for sale. They'd set you back $300 a pop, but each resin figure was handmade and hand painted. We've been waiting YEARS for this guy to be produced, but it seems that Atta decided to do it himself. And they look very impressive.

Probably the craziest booth in the Designer Toy area has been somewhat a surprise....tokidoki. They love his bags, and whenever Simone Legno is at his booth...it's sure to attract a crowd. It's actually so crazy that it's difficult to get a good photo! So check out some people standing in front of the tokidoki booth!

Ayleen from October Toys let us know about several of the company's new figure lines. The 3rd Series of Gwin is now available, with designs from Squidboy, Jim Koch, Lou Pimentel, HideousBoi and Bill Rawley.
Also, they have teamed up with Jim Koch to produce a prototype for Jim's Hanus vinyl figure. The chicken bone the figure is holding behind his back should be removable. Blanks...Artist Series...Variants. That would be cool.
Finally, October Toys has introduced their own line of Zombies. You might say "OK, so?" But these are going to bring back memories for anyone who used to collect M.U.S.C.L.E. figures. They're about the same size, but instead of wrestling...it's all about brain eating. The SDCC exclusive is a fan-boy with his print tube and backpack. As long as I can recreate the entire Thriller music video...I'll be fine!

The kind folks at the Uglydoll booth let us take some photographs of their garbage cans. But if you've ever been to Comic Con, you know that the Uglydoll garbage cans are special! This year, they were full of the brand new line of Ice Lodge Uglydolls.
I believe they're correct when they say one man's trash is another man's treasure. The all white (with black eyes) Uglydolls are available in 17 different styles in the Classic and Little Ugly versions. Also, if you're at Comic Con...you'll have a chance to win one of the 2 foot tall Ice Lodge Dolls that they are giving away each and every day (one a day).
And on Saturday at 3PM, David Horvath - Mr. Uglydoll himself - will be at the booth (#4930) to sign until his carpel tunnel syndrome starts acting up...or security closes the signing down (once again).

If you've never been to Preview Night at San Diego Comic Con, it's much like being thrown into the middle of a comic and toy laden mosh pit.
Normally, there are two types of people who make their way out to the show for that three hour window on Wednesday night: people who REALLY want 'that' exclusive, and people who REALLY want to sell 'that' exclusive on eBay.
So rather than even attempting to interview anyone at what was definitely a hectic time, I decided to take a few shots of the masses as they descended on their favorite booths. Keep checking back in as I'll be posting more info (and photos) of relevant booths from Comic Con.
