Breathing fresh air into the consumer electronics industry, the creative minds at mimoco are pleased to announce the availability of the first wave of mimobot™ designer toy flash memory drives. Available in 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB capacities, mimobots serve their purpose with complete and utter style thanks to the designs of urban artist Yahid ‘Serial Killer’ Rodriguez.

The quest to fuse art and technology became reality today when the first four Cosmos Series mimobots – protobot0, protobot1, isadore, and fairybit – were released into our world. The characters are available in editions of 250 or 500 units, are hi-speed USB 2.0, and are compatible with both Windows and Mac.

“Long live mimobots,” said Evan Blaustein, leader and cofounder of mimoco. “The release of Cosmos Series marks the first foray of designer toys into the realm of consumer electronics. We appreciate all of the support we’ve received from the art community so far, and we look forward to bringing new and wonderful projects to our fans.”

Adding the element of digital storage to designer toys has allowed mimoco to give artists more media to work with. Starting with Cosmos Series, mimobots will come loaded with various bonus materials. DJ DB has prepared an exclusive mix of fresh tracks that can only be found on this first series of mimobots. Future series will include character-related media content such as animation, games, and music.

Cosmos Series mimobots are available now from http://lab.mimoco.com, Giant Robot (NY, LA, SF), Motley (Boston), Rotofugi (Chicago), Super7 (SF), Breakbeat Science (NY) Le Rezoh (France), and 90 Square Meters (Amsterdam). Prices range from $69.95 to $139.95.
