I never understood when, in Star Wars: A New Hope, Luke Skywalker said "This R2 unit has a bad motivator". Did he not know that it was actually an R5 unit? Or did they just make up the name R5-D4 when Kenner needed a name to sell the Star Wars toy line.

Sideshow Collectibles has announced that they are taking pre-orders for the upcoming R5-D4 1/6th scale figure that's expected to begin shipping around March 2016. It retails for $139.99 and will fit in perfectly beside their already released R2-D2 figure. Though it is slightly larger, measuring in at roughly 8.6 inches tall from antenna to treads. The figure features Red’s distinctive trapezoid-shaped head features authentic holographic details, and can swivel nearly 360 degrees, while a magnetic restraining bolt grants access to a variety of compartments and hinged panels. Notoriously plagued with malfunctions, he also suffers a pop-up “bad motivator”. 

The R5-D4 1/6th Scale figure features:

  • Highly detailed R5 series Astromech sculpt
  • Rotating head
  • Pop up 'Bad motivator' feature
  • Articulated terrain tread legs
  • Articulated and retractable third tread leg
