Background
If you're in to collecting resin figures, you're bound to have heard of Mad Joe Customizer and/or Overkill Creations. If you haven't...you're missing out. Mad Joe works mainly in resin – hand sculpting and hand casting most of his creations. (He got that name by creating custom kits for 3 3/4” G.I. Joe figures)
We were lucky enough to get one of Mad Joe's limited edition Ick Monster figures to review. This is one of only two Beastman Ick Monster colorways out there. It does use the same mould as other Ick Monster resins that Mad Joe has released.

Our Opinion
Resin has really come a long way over the past year. I might even say that it has leapfrogged vinyl as the material of choice. Artists can make small run figures at home (no shipping to/from China) and have more control over the final product. Mad Joe Customizer has a pretty nice setup for creating resin figures...and he's released a number of them.
The Ick Monster piece is very solid. It stands in at 6.5” tall with articulated arms. Usually, when you think of resin, you think of an unarticulated statue. The movement in the arms is a great addition to the Ick Monster sculpt.
The Beastman version features a furry black loincloth and vest. There's also a glow-in-the-dark resin skull that hangs around his neck via a chain. The paint scheme uses a fluorescent orange base with dark orange accents on the sculpted creases. The face is painted white with blue accents and bright green eyes.
This is a handmade figure – everything is done by Mad Joe Customizer. So there are bound to be slight differences from one figure to another. I haven't found any quality issues. It actually looks pretty amazing and just shows how resin quality is advancing.
OVERALL: I'm sure you'll be seeing the Beastman Ick Monster again when we wrap up 2011. It's a great resin figure, and I'm really surprised that Overkill Creations has any of them left in stock. It's not a surprise that Mad Joe was in our top artists of 2010. And I think he has a number of surprises for the current year.
There are currently different Ick Monster versions available through the Overkill Creations shop – Big Eyed Black Ick and Arctic Ick – for $40.00 each.
