Background

So far, 2009 has given fans of the Uglydolls a number of new collectable plushies. The fourth and fifth releases of the year are the first married couple from David and Sun-MinMr. Kasoogi and Mrs. Kasoogi.

Mr. Kasoogi is a treasure hunter. He's had a lot of practice hunting for smaller items like candy, donuts, and even fruit. Now he's ready to take on the big challenges...But he needs a partner. Someone he can trust. Or maybe someone like you. Are you up for it? Will you be there when Mrs. Kasoogi turns the kitchen lights on and you're caught with your hand in the cookie jar? Yes? Good! You take the blame! Mr. Kasoogi doesn't mess with Mrs. Kasoogi.

Mrs. Kasoogi is the boss in the family. She makes sure things run without snags and she keeps Mr. Kasoogi out of the cookie jar. That way there's more for her! Mrs. Kasoogi demands respect and attention. Attention to details! Small details such as where to find buried treasure, paranormal evidence, the secret of life, the secret to your best recipes, and the secret to finding enough time in the day to get things done. Things like naps.

Our Opinion

The first thing I noticed about Mr. and Mrs. Kasoogi is the color of the characters. Common sense - with maybe a little gender stereotyping - would have seen an orange and a purple Uglydoll and thought the orange was the Mr. and the purple was the Mrs. But they’ve gone and switched it up on you!

The Mr. and Mrs. use the same pattern (with facial expression), so they might look like colorways if you’re not familiar with the background story. And David Horvath is a pro at crafting a hilarious backstory that includes you (the collector) smack dab in the middle.

One of these days I plan on creating an overall chart of favorite Uglydolls. I encourage you to do the same. But until I get it into writing, I can’t really say, “this is my 12th favorite Uglydoll”. Because I’m not sure where the Kasoogis fall into the ultimate Uglyverse.

I can tell you that I “dig” the first married Uglydoll couple. I’m just waiting to see a baby Kasoogi. What color do you get when you combine purple and orange? Maybe a nice brown?

You can pick one up at the following:
