Background

Tonner’s Women of Power line has given collectors of the company’s DC Stars line an alternate version of some of the most popular female superheroes and villains of comic book lore.  While they might be primped and dolled up (no pun intended), they’re the same law enforcers, or lawbreakers, underneath the makeup and frilly dresses.

For purposes of this review, we’re going to take a look at the Black Canary: Blonde Bombshell Tonner Character Figure.  As Dinah Lance’s superhero alter-ego, she is noted for her martial arts skills, motorcycle expertise and the Canary Cry.

Packaging

Black Canary is packaged in the same DC Stars box (plain black with a small logo on the front) as the rest of the Women of Power line.  She’s secured using ribbons and protected with plastic and a hairnet.

The Figure

The Black Canary: Blonde Bombshell Tonner Character Figure stands approximately 16” tall and has 13 points of articulation (neck, ribs, waist, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees).  The soft vinyl head has blonde, rooted saran hair.

This Women of Power variant comes dressed in a black gown that is styled with: a deep V neckline; feathered, flared bottom; mesh sleeves and choker; satin belt with rhinestone buckle.  The figure includes rhinestone hoop earrings, faux leather high heels and a display stand (hides under the dress).

This Tonner Direct Exclusive figure is limited to a run of 200 pieces.

Our Opinion

Having a chance to look at three of the five Women of Power TCFs, I feel that the Black Canary figure is slightly ahead of Poison Ivy for my favorite in the line.  It mostly has to do with keeping true to the original character.

Even though most figures from this line could be looked at as fashion dolls, they have little hints at their superhero influence.  For instance, this figure has the black feathers on the bottom of her dress (black feathers…black canary…??).  And the predominantly black themed outfit keeps with her DC Stars based figure.

Tonner just knows how to make fashion dolls, and they’re playing to their strength with this line.
