Background

When you hear the name Elvira only one person comes to mind... Halloween icon and quintessential symbol of all things spooky, the one and only Mistress of the Dark.  Back in 1981, who could have imagined the hostess of a local Hollywood Horror movie show would grow to become a household name? Elvira was the first horror host ever to be syndicated nationally and has emerged as one of the most original and outrageous characters in popular culture today. (From Elvira.com)

For their 2008 Halloween Convention, Tonner Doll Company released an authorized likeness of Cassandra Peterson (the woman behind the character) as Elvira.  While this was a limited edition run, some of the remaining figures have become available for those who weren’t able to attend the festivities.

Packaging

The Elvira figure uses a specially labeled TCF box that has all of the normal Tonner bells and whistles.  The piece is protected with tissue paper, plastic and a hairnet. And she is secured in the packaging using ribbons.

The Figure

The Elvira Tonner Character Figure is approximately 17” in height and has around 14 points of articulation.  The face sculpt is an authorized likeness of Cassandra Peterson, who dreamt up The Mistress of the Dark back in 1981.  The figure uses the athletic body with high-heeled feet.

Elvira’s outfit includes her black dress with the plunging neckline and slit up the right side leg.  She has black high heels, a faux leather belt with a resin dagger, three faux leather studded bracelets, and a ruby ring (that you push into her finger).  Each figure comes with a display stand that wraps around the figure’s back.

The 2008 Halloween Convention Exclusive is a limited-edition run of 300 pieces.  Each one includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

Our Opinion

It seems that every time I review a new Tonner Character Figure, I’m saying that this one is my new favorite.  But this one is gonna be tough to top.

When I first showed my wife the figure, she thought it might be Amy Winehouse.  I thought about it for a second…and she’s right!  The two look eerily familiar (minus the crazy eyeliner).  So, I guess customizers could make use of this if they really wanted an Amy Winehouse doll.

The Elvira TCF is an amazing likeness of The Mistress of the Dark.  The makeup is done with shades of purple around the eyes and nose.  The beauty mark is in the proper spot.  And the hair is done up in Elvira’s iconic beehive.

They’ve paid such attention to detail that Elvira actually has real eyelashes.  Well, maybe not eyelashes from an actual human…but they aren’t painted on.  It’s those kind of details that could have this figure picking up awards at the end of the year.
