Background

Mezco Toyz released the second series of Cinema of Fear roto plush characters with a trio of horror film legends.  Leatherface, Jason Vorhees and Freddy Krueger are all represented in this series.

We’ll be looking at the Freddy Krueger roto plush.  This plush is designed as Freddy from A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors.

Packaging

The plush might come in a clear plastic bag…or not.  It al depends on where you purchase it.  No big deal, though.  Since this is a plush, there is no need for packaging.  It does have an attached tag.

The Figure

The Freddy Krueger Cinema of Fear roto plush stands approximately 13” in height.  The figure’s body is plush, however, the head, hands and feet are all constructed of rotocast vinyl.  Hence roto plush.

Freddy is sculpted with a stylized look.  He’s all dolled up in a tidy (removable) tuxedo with a cumber bun and bow tie.  And he also has that legendary glove (with fake blood included).

Our Opinion

As a kid, I was too big of a scaredy cat to watch many horror films, but I did see Dream Warriors.  Maybe it was that there was a little comedy included with the gore, but I actually enjoyed the film.  And for that reason, I think the Freddy Krueger character lends itself well to a stylized look.

While the Cinema of Fear line is obviously targeted at horror film fans, it also melds two popular toy mediums – plush and rotocast vinyl.  The quality of the Freddy figure is fairly average.  And while it might not be super cuddly with little vinyl blades, it will appeal to fans of the A Nightmare on Elm Street series.
