Background

Tonner Doll Company has continued their licensed Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix line with the release of Professor Severus Snape.  Modeled after the actor Alan Rickman, who plays the character, Snape is one of the most anticipated Tonner Character Figures in the Potter line.

Professor Snape is one of the pivotal characters in the Harry Potter novels (and films).  As Hogwarts’ Potions Master, he was one of Harry Potter’s most influential professors.  And Entertainment Weekly listed Alan Rickman as one of the most popular actors of 2007 for his portrayal of the Snape character.

The Figure

The Professor Snape Tonner Character Figure stands approximately 19” in height with 14 points of articulation (feet, knees, hips, chest, shoulders, elbows, wrists and neck).  The hard plastic body Tonner has used is the same as many of their superhero figures.

Sculpted in the likeness of actor Alan Rickman, the figure’s head is made of vinyl and has rooted saran hair.  Snape is dressed in a nearly all black outfit including faux-leather boots, pants, long topcoat (with detailed buttons) and scarf.  He has a large white collar, which sort of makes him look like a pilgrim.

Also included with the figure is a professor’s robe, magic wand and display stand.  This piece is a limited edition of 1,500 pieces.

Our Opinion

The first time I same the Professor Snape TCF was (I believe) NY Comic Con.  At that time, I just wanted to snag one so I could turn him into Hans Gruber.  (For those of you not familiar with the film Die Hard, Hans Gruber was the diabolical character played by Alan Rickman.)  Of course, that would mean a hair cut and some added facial hair.  But the sculpt looks so much like Alan Rickman that it would definitely be possible.

Tonner has done another great job on the sculpt and the outfit for this figure.  While I like having the option of displaying the figure wearing the robe, I would choose not to.  It’s a little bit baggy, plus, it covers up the great clothes Snape is sporting.

If I have one gripe, it would be about the superhero TCF body.  The ankles don’t articulate from side to side.  This gives the figure a somewhat pigeon-toed look.  It’s minor because you can articulate the hips, but it would be a nice addition.

Overall, I’d say that this is one of Tonner Doll’s better sculpts of a famous actor (although nothing will beat their Kirsten Dunst).  And Potter fans are bound to be happy with this addition to their collections.
