REVIEW: High Seas Elizabeth Swann

When asked about the Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Keira Knightley stated of her character Elizabeth Swann, "we went off into a grungier look for her. That was really exciting actually, to take the character and make her grow up... I think they really liked the more action-based side of Elizabeth from the first film and apparently that's what little girls really responded to, so they decided to take her off in that direction".

Tonner Doll Company has given collectors a chance to own Knightley’s “grungy” character, when they released the High Seas Elizabeth Swann TCF.  The previous two versions of Swann had her all dolled up in frilly dresses, so this is the first time you’ll see her in pirate garb.

This Elizabeth Swann TCF is packaged in Tonner’s Pirates of the Caribbean designed rectangular box.  This figure is well packaged and secured inside of the box, however, you wouldn’t want to display this piece in the packaging.  Take it out and place it on a shelf.

The Figure

The High Seas Elizabeth Swann Tonner Character Figure stands approximately 16” tall and has 13 points of articulation.  While the head sculpt is similar to the Abandoned Bride TCF, this figure has a tanned skin tone.  It’s an authorized likeness of actress Keira Knightley and limited to a run of 2,000 pieces.

Her pirate outfit includes the following: a faux leather tri-cornered hat, cotton blouse, printed vest with front buttons and lace-up detail on the back, long pirate’s jacket with over 20 “antiqued” buttons, faux leather boots, a faux leather sword strap, and a resin sword.  The TCF also comes with a high quality display stand.

Our Opinion

Someone is going to have to produce an amazing articulated figure if they want to knock the High Seas Elizabeth Swann from our top spot.  It’s one of our favorite figures of 2008.  I’m not sure what it is about Tonner’s Pirates of the Caribbean line, but they’ve nailed it so far.

The sculpt on this piece looks like Keira Knightley (although my photos not have properly captured that).  The clothing details, especially all of those detailed buttons, are top-notch.  This figure is the perfect complement for Tonner’s equally impressive Jack Sparrow TCF.
