Background

He's an all-time great; an unparalleled storyteller, and a man whose talent can only be compared to the size of his legend.

While that statement might be open to opinion, no one can argue that The Notorious B.I.G.’s influence can still be felt in the rap world.  Why else would Mezco Toyz have created a line of stylized Biggie (aka Christopher Wallace) vinyl figures?

The Notorious B.I.G. 2008 Exclusive was released at this year’s New York Comic Con and features the rapper in his Juicy music video attire.

Packaging

The solid cardboard packaging features a silhouette of The Notorious B.I.G. on the front and the back of the box.  The figure is secured in a plastic tray with twist ties.  A sticker on the box identifies that this is a 2008 Exclusive piece.

The Figure

The Notorious B.I.G. stylized action figure is made of rotocast vinyl
(although harder than most vinyl toys) and stands approximately 9”
tall
.  The figure has 12 points of articulation (shoes, legs, chest,
neck, shoulders, arms and wrists) and uses ball joints in the neck and
shoulders for added movement.

The exclusive figure is dressed in an authentically reproduced Bad Boy
basketball jersey, white t-shirt and jean shorts.  His accessories
include a microphone, white towel, sunglasses and a gold chain.  The
limited edition figure has been produced in a run of 2,000 pieces.

Our Opinion

Listening pretty much exclusively to Indie Rock, I know very little
about The Notorious B.I.G. and his overall influence in the rap genre.
I just remember he came out with a few popular songs that would be
played at parties in college.

But I don’t think you have to be a Biggie Smalls fan to appreciate this
figure.  The sculpting work on the figure’s face is impressive. And the
entire body has a somewhat porous look to it.  It's not smooth
like most vinyl pieces…and I think it gives a more lifelike look to the
action figure.

The stylized look allows for distortions in the boots, but everything
else is pretty much in scale.  His nickname was Biggie for a reason.

I believe the most impressive aspect of this figure is the price.  For
only $30, you get a well-produced, high quality 9” Convention Exclusive
figure with a ton of detail and some decent accessories.
