Background
With the release of their Harley Quinn Tonner Character Figure, Tonner Doll Company has added one more villain to their DC Stars line. While the character might be slightly recognizable to those who don’t read comics, the supervillainess is an important part of the Batman story.
First appearing in a 1992 episode of Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn is based on a traditional harlequin jester. An accomplice of the Joker and Poison Ivy, she fits in perfectly with the already existing Batman-related TCFs.
Packaging
The figure is packaged in the standard DC Stars rectangular box. All tied up with ribbons, Tonner is always at the head of the class when it comes to protecting your important purchase.
The Figure
The Harley Quinn Tonner Character Figure is approximately 16” in height with 15 points of articulation. The body that is used is made of all white hard plastic with a white vinyl head. The rooted saran hair is blonde and sticks out of the back of Harley Quinn’s removable jester headpiece.
The character is dressed in a red and black bodysuit outfit in a checkerboard design. In addition to the jester headpiece, Harley Quinn includes gloves (one red, one black), a black mask, and a display stand. It is limited to a run of 2,000 pieces.
Our Opinion
In a medium that’s usually dominated by male superheroes, it’s not often that there is a leading lady as the main heroine or villain. People who consider themselves Batman fans might not even recognize Harley Quinn. She did just get her start a little over 15 years ago in an animated television series.
But Tonner chose to cover her in their DC Stars line, because she is an interesting character (in background and costume). The costume is right on line with her animated self, however, I don’t remember her showing any hair in the animated series. Tonner might have allowed the hair out of the mask to alleviate an awkward looking bulge in the TCF’s back. The NYCC exclusive version actually does have shorter hair, so that might be remedied.
Overall, it’s a great addition to the DC Stars. There are some hardcore Harley Quinn fans out there, and they should be pleased with this high quality piece.
