Background
The Uglydoll family grew by five at the International Toy Fair this past February, and David and Sun-Min revealed their latest designs. Among those is Poe the Ugly Dragon. Poe has the distinct notoriety of being the first new Uglydoll character of 2008.
Poe is an Ugly Dragon. Ugly Dragons come from the Ugly Dragon Mountain. But Poe has left the safety of his caverns is search of his big dreams. The other day he had a big dream about a big scoop of Ice Cream. Chocolate.
While most Ugly Dragons sleep all day and fly all night, Poe is more into cars, trucks, bikes, and anything that lets him sit down while moving. Flying is hard. You have to flap your wings around all the time! Can Poe roll with you?
Packaging
You might find Poe trapped inside of an enormous bag, but more than likely, he’ll be out on a shelf someplace. Each plush does come with a tag that gives you some background info (which you probably just read up above).
The Figure
Poe the Ugly Dragon is currently available in four different sizes: keychain, Little
Ugly, regular Uglydoll and (the one we are looking at) the 2 foot tall
Ugly. These range from 4” to 24” in height.
Done in a pea soup green plush (we’ve not seen this shade of green in
an Uglydoll character), the Ugly Dragon has long wings and pointy
ears. Don’t worry. They might be pointy, but they’re not sharp.
There’s a difference.
Our Opinion
A number of Uglydoll collectors believe that Poe resembles Ice-Bat,
however, there are some noticeable differences. Poe only has 2 teeth
(Ice-Bat has 4) and both the wings and ears on Poe are longer than
Ice-Bat’s. Plus, Ice-Bat has feet, while Poe is sporting stockier legs.
While I feel that Babo’s Bird is the standout design of the five
characters to be released in 2008, I’m sure that Poe will end up having
a devoted following. I’m just wondering if he’s a fire breathing
dragon.
