Background
You might remember that Crazy Label released Dutch designer Metin Seven’s Seamour Sheep and Marty Mole rotocast vinyl figures earlier this year. Well, the Seamour Sheep family has grown by one figure with the release of the Seamour Sheep Illuminative Edition vinyl.
That’s right! This is no wimpy glow-in-the-dark. You actually plug in the figure via a USB cable. Then, you can count sheep as you fall asleep to the tender glow of the LED lit ovine.
Packaging
The windowless box is somewhat similar in appearance to the original Seamour packaging. The color scheme has changed to black, but there is still a ton of information, pictures and a comic on the bottom of the box.
The Figure
The Seamour Sheep Illuminative Edition rotocast vinyl is approximately 8” long by 6” in height. Each figure is packaged with removable goggles that are slightly different than those packaged with the original Seamour Sheep. The goggles included with the Illuminative Edition are brown…yet translucent.
Each figure is packed with a USB cord that you can then plug into your computer or a USB power adapter. So where does the USB cable connect? Just pop off the tail and insert into Seamour’s rear end. Ouch!
The Seamour Sheep Illuminative Edition is limited to a run of 500 pieces.
Our Opinion
You have to love it when vinyl toy companies push the envelope with new innovations. When I first saw photos of the Illuminative Edition of Seamour Sheep, I thought it was just a 3D rendering…basically a pipe dream. But Crazy Label made the figure happen. They used an LED light, which limits heat produced, inside of the figure. It probably wouldn’t be a good thing to have your Seamour plugged in with an incandescent bulb inside and to come back an hour later to a puddle of plastic.
Children of all ages can appreciate this vinyl figure. From a toddler using the Sheep as a nightlight, to an adult collector who simply enjoys the artist’s work…everyone will be entertained by a glowing Seamour.
