Background
This coming Tuesday, July 17th, Upper Deck will be opening up their All-Star Vinyl Platinum Club to 500 members. You’ll be able to sign up beginning at 9:00 AM PDT (Noon on the East Coast).
Among the benefits of being a club member is a Platinum Edition Sidney Crosby ASV figure. There are only 500 of these made, so each member will receive one. Also, they will receive the following: a 24-hour advance purchase window for ASV releases, exclusive club releases, “Black Out” events, a club swag bag, vote your favorite players in ASV form, members only forum and 25% off ASV display case.
Packaging
Since the platinum figure is black with silver highlights, the box reflects this. It’s your standard All-Star Vinyl packaging (window-front package hidden by a Velcro-ed flap). The figure is secured in a plastic tray using ties.
The Figure
The sculpt of the All-Star Vinyl Sidney Crosby figure is the same as
the initial release. This is the 4th colorway, following the Home,
Away and Black editions. It is limited to only 500 pieces, as they are
only available to Platinum Club members.
The figure stands approximately 11.5” in height and has 6 points of
articulation (knees, wrists and shoulders). The accessories include a
pure black hockey stick as well as his Pittsburgh Penguins helmet.
Our Opinion
We’re pretty excited about the new Upper Deck All-Star Vinyl Platinum
Club. For only $100, you receive the Crosby Platinum Edition…which
would usually retail for $100. So, basically, any additional features
are bonus. Since there is such a demand for some of the smaller runs,
having that 24 hour advance order window should almost guarantee you
getting all of the ASV figures you want.
So, how about the figure itself? I like the silver and black colorway
better than the gold and black version UD previously released. It just
has a sleek and cool look to it. Very simple. Very cool.
