Background

Toy2R has produced what is probably the most well-known designer platform toy of all time.  The Qee has been home to designs from all of the top artists out there.  The company has expanded the sizes that the figures are available in, however, the standard sizes are still the 8” vinyl and 2.5” plastic versions.

For purposes of our review, we are looking at two of the newer Qee sets – Kei Sawada's Cucumouse Mono Version and Frank Kozik’s Anarchy Dog.

Packaging

Each set is packaged in a window-front box.  The 8” Qee is viewable through the main window, with a smaller window that features the mini Qee.  Each of the boxes is designed by the artist, and are loaded with their recognizable artwork.

The Figures

Kei Sawada’s Cucumouse Mono Version Qee
set is a colorless variant.  There are
two other versions of the Qee – Regular as well as Red editions.  The
8” Qee features Kei’s infamous Cucumouse character.  In the artist
collection, the 2.5” Qee is designed in the likeness of the artist.
This set is limited to a run of 100 pieces.

Frank Kozik’s 8” Anarchy Dog (Black Version) Qee
is traditional Kozik
work: the anarchy symbol, beard stubble, cigarette and bunghole.  The
2.5” Qee, designed like Frank Kozik, is dressed up as a member of the
People’s Liberation Army.  This set is limited to a run of 500 pieces.

Our Opinion

If you’re a designer toy collector, owning a Qee is a must.  It doesn’t
matter if it’s a dog, pig, cat…and it doesn’t matter who the artist
is.  You just need at least one in your collection.  It would be like calling yourself a baseball fan without knowing who Babe Ruth is.

Looking at the two we are reviewing, I tend to like Kei Sawada’s more
than the Kozik Qee.  The Cucumouse Qee is smartly designed, with the
actual character making up the figure’s head.  The legs dangle down the
body, which is designed with a wooden look.  The Anarchy Dog Qee is
what we’ve seen from Kozik in almost every piece he’s designed in the
past few years.  Fans of his work will appreciate the figure, but
others might just see this as another “Kozik”.
