Wham! by Tim W

This is just a great piece of art. From Tim Wollweber,  he created this homage to Popeye. Created for the official Popeye Anniversary Art Show at Hero Complex Gallery, it pictures Popeye literally knocking Bluto out of the frame. It sold at the show, but there are plenty of other great Popeye inspired artwork available via the gallery.

Dana Lechtenberg: The Heads of Advertising

With the opening of The Heads of Advertising at Kansas City’s Reactor Design Studio, designer and director Dana Lechtenberg, contributor to Gallery1988 in Los Angeles and coordinator for Thirty-Three and a Third Album Art Shows, offers visitors a deeper glimpse into the personalities behind Saturday morning cartoons and after school TV commercials.

“When I was about nine or ten, I would go to the local grocery store with my mom, grab a brown paper bag from the big barrel of peanuts, sit in front of the cereal aisle, and draw the characters from the boxes,” said Lechtenberg. “The show is a just a chance to smile, maybe hum a jingle or two and think about these lovable guys whose sole mission was to get us to beg our parents to spend.”

An opening-night reception will be held on Friday September 5th 2014 from 5PM to 9PM. Reactor is located at 1817 Grand Boulevard, Kansas City, MO. The show will be on display for about a month and with fifteen portraits including Burger King, Captain Cupcake, Frankenberry, Bud Man, Sprout, Woodsy Owl, Charlie Tuna, and Quisp.

We beg for Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy Toys

Evil-Corp-Andy-Gary has generated some buzz by posting three images that are their "very own EVIL homage to the Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy." The Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost trio of films - Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End - have already been the focus of at least one recent art show (over at Gallery1988). And we've seen collectibles/toys based on Shaun of the Dead from the likes of Sideshow and NECA.

So what will it take to convince the folks at EvilCorp to roll with these and get them into production (dependent on, I assume, whether they can license them)? I know I would be in for all three sets.

Crittersaurus Print

Scott Wetterschneider has released a new 12" x 12" art print on 16" x 16" archival matte paper. Named Crittersaurus, you can read more about the character below. You can pick one up via the above link for $40.00.

Crittersaurus finds himself in a strange town, with no friends. Gently, he meanders from street to street, taking in the new sights and sounds, hopeful that, at last, he's found a place to call home. Scott Wetterschneider's giant, strange beasts are not your run-of-the-mill kaiju. They forgo violence, are often ill-at-ease, and do their best to keep a low profile. Accidents do happen, so be cautious.
