Background
Munchkin Cthulhu is a card game from Steve Jackson Games that was written by Steve Jackson and illustrated by John Kovalic. “Munchkins have hacked their way through dungeons, kung fu temples, starships, haunted houses, and super-foes. Now they face their greatest challenge – Cthulhu! Will they survive? Will they retain their sanity? Will they . . . level up?”
Steve Jackson Games, under their Evil Stevie’s Toys moniker, has brought one of the cutest Cthulhu versions to collectors and fans of the game. The Chibithulhu plush includes a list of game rules that will help you while playing the Munchkin Cthulhu game…as long as you have your trusty pal in the room with you.
Packaging
Like most plush toys, this figure is simply packaged in a clear plastic bag. The Chibithulhu plush does include a tag around its neck that lists game rules for the character.
The Figure
The Chibithulhu plush stands approximately 10” tall and is made of super soft material. The character is available in green, pink and white (the special Santa Clause) versions. Each plush features the trademark Cthulhu tentacles, big puppy dog eyes, white wings and a heart on its’ chest.
Our Opinion
I came from the pre card game generation. Some of my friends were in to Dungeons and Dragons and other role-playing games, but I never had the patience to play them. Nevertheless, both the originals and these new games are very popular.
And with the Chibithulhu plush, Steve Jackson Games brings a plush character out of their game and in to your living room. The fact that it can be used as an interactive part of any of the Munchkin Cthulhu games is what makes it a fun and unique piece.
When it comes to the actual plush, the quality is fairly average for what appears to be a larger run piece. There were some random strings from the various seams, but they were all easily trimmed. I like the use of the thick black lines around the eyes and heart as well as the mouth and eyebrows. It’s made of very soft material, so I’m sure kids will love it. And most importantly, the Chibithulhu plush is just cute. It makes you smile…and that’s a good thing.
