U1 Toy Arts is offering up a special deal on Nathan Hamill's Boris vinyl figure. A limited edition acrylic keychain charm will be included with the purchase of every Boris vinyl through U1 Toy Arts. Each piece measures roughly 2" in diameter and apparently comes packaged randomly.
“Letters from LA is a new line of collectibles that was created to showcase one of the most important aspects of graffiti art – Lettering.” Released by U1 Art Toys, this line of resin collectibles is designed in conjunction with each graffiti artist, to give the best representation of their actual artwork.
The first piece from the Letters from LA series is Voxer, by artist Vox One. “Known for his angular linework, psychedelic fill-ins, and ‘old school’ feel, Vox has been featured in a variety of media including books, magazines, video games, movies, and various art galleries.”
Letters from LA - Voxer
Series: Letters from LA
Manufacturer: U1 Toy Arts
Artist: Vox One
Sculpted by: Dave Kawano
Dimensions: 7.5" tall by 11.75" wide
Edition Size: 500 pieces
The Letters from LA – Voxer piece comes packaged in a tab lock tuck box. Inside, there are several layers of Styrofoam that keep the three parts of the art piece separated. Each piece is secured in a cutout Styrofoam layer. The outside of the packaging shows the wall and lettering as well as some LA-inspired artwork.
The Letters from LA line is much more art than toy. These resin collectibles are meant to be displayed. And U1 Toy Arts has given you three different ways to display the Voxer collectible. The piece comes in three different parts – the base, back wall and graffiti letters. Both the wall and the graffiti have a cutout in the back that would allow you to hang the piece on a nail. So, you could go with all three pieces of a desk or shelf, or one of the two hanging options.
The Voxer collectible is rather weighty. It actually weighs 2 pounds 10 ounces. The wall fits securely in the base cutout, and the base is heavy enough that the piece will not tip over. The wall also has a pair of metal posts that fit into the holes featured on the back of the lettering. This all leads to a three dimensional effect with the letters being raised off of the background wall.
Even though there’s a huge graffiti presence in the designer vinyl and art toy world…there’s nothing that really replicates the graffiti feel. Many years back, there were the trains from Bigshot Toyworks. And we’ve seen tags turned into displayable pieces. But no one has “gotten it” like U1 Toy Arts’ Letters from LA line.
This is a pretty small run – at only 500 pieces – so an $85 price tag is fairly reasonable. The good thing is that U1 will be working with other artists (presumably LA-based) on adding new designs to the series.
