Space Junk Destroyer 01

Background

Back in October 2012, Bad Applez Inc. and Plaseebo teamed up to release a small run New York Comic Con Exclusive Space Junk Destroyer customs. As you might already know, Bad Applez Inc. is Rob Ingellis (OsiRisORion) and Mike "NeMo" Mendez, while Plaseebo is the one and only Bob Conge.

The Space Junk Destroyer was originally designed and hand-cast in resin by the guys at Bad Applez. Bob Conge added some finishing touches to the sculpt and painted it all up.

And I'd like to thank Bob for sending this piece in to review.

Our Opinion

While we're looking at the NYCC Space Junk Destroyer as a whole, it's important to see what the piece looked like before Bob Conge got his hands on it. As you can see from the above photo, Bob added those hand-cast crab claws and a trio of inset plastic eyes (I believe the eye colors vary by piece). Then, he hit it up with a custom paint job featuring green, pink, blue, purple, orange, and silver paints.

All of that work gives this custom the distinct Plaseebo look. The only thing it is lacking is some sort of internal LED light-up function, which Bob is known for putting in vinyl toys. Obviously, LEDs and resin aren't the optimal combination.

There's a lot of excellent sculpting done by Bad Applez Inc. Since it's “space junk”, the body of the figure is sculpted like a trash heap. But don't be fooled...this is a piece that will sit on your shelf. There will be no playing with it. It's heavy. It's delicate. And it's more art than toy.

Upon first look, there's something slightly unsettling about the Plaseebo Space Junk Destroyer. Maybe it's the quivering lips. Maybe it's the Don Corleone-esque position of the right claw. Whatever it is, the figure is both intriguing and eery.

Oh..and there's only one of them left.
