3A dropcloth 01

Background

The Dropcloth bots are some of the most deadly characters from the World War Robot series. Ashley Wood and threeA have released the Dropcloth figure in five variant designs: Commando Uncle5, Deimos Liberator, Panda Shocktrooper, Slim Red and the retail exclusive Slaughterhouse.

We're going to be taking a look at the Slaughterhouse Dropcloth for this review. It's probably one of the few WWR figures still available at retail, and Sideshow Collectibles was nice enough to send one for review.

Ashley Wood describes the Slaughterhouse Dropcloth as follows:

They rest during daylight, as their light sensors pick up the fleeting light, they crawl from their hiding spots, tapping on windows , killing pets, and wholesale slaughter of towns etc etc. The Euro Bramble Project has been very effective against these bastards in Europe, and now many other countries are deploying units to just to hunt and destroy these dropcloth as they rest.. kinda like vampires etc. Slaughterhouse is the worst, no restraints.

Packaging

The Dropcloth figure comes packaged in a red, white and black themed rectangular box. It has a real retro look to it. Inside, the figure is sealed between a pair of plastic trays. While the cleavers are bagged separately, look for the pistol to already be placed in the Dropcloth's holster.

Our Opinion

I've quickly become a huge fan of the products that threeA and Ashley Wood produce. I think part of that has to do with the amazing quality that is put in to every single release. From the articulation to the sculpt to the incredible paintwork – it's all premium stuff. With that said, this is the first time I went hands-on with one of Ashley's World War Robot figures.

When you open up the box, you're immediately hit with a fresh paint smell. I'm guessing that's from the apron and pouches that appear to be splashed with some paint that resembles an oil brown color. These pouches are similar to what you'll find on Sideshow's G.I. Joe line. Some of the pouches have mini plastic snaps or Velcro to keep them closed.

On to the sense of sight, where you will definitely notice some outstanding production paint work. I have no idea how they applied that weathered rust look to this figure, but it gives the effect that your metal robot sat outside in the rain for a few months. (It's actually a roto vinyl body with everything else hard plastic) There are plenty of decals – mainly featuring the number 6 – that are also hit with the rusted paint look.

The Slaughterhouse Dropcloth includes three accessories: two meat cleavers and a pistol. The pistol has a holster, so I prefer to arm this bot with the more personal cleavers. The figure comes packaged with the roto vinyl pack on its back removed. I found it a little difficult to put into the figure's back, so I busted out the wife's trusty hairdryer (hit the back a little and the pack should fit in perfectly).

Once you get over the insane paint work...you'll be able to check out the articulation on the Dropcloth figure. The most impressive aspect is that all of the fingers are jointed like real human fingers. This allows you to wrap the hands around the cleaver or position them as if the Dropcloth is about to pull the trigger on his pistol. The overall articulation of the figure will allow you to place it in a number of stances. (I just don't have much of an imagination)

Finally, I wanted to mention the price. Sideshow has this figure for $99.99. While that sounds like a lot...compared to other 1:6 scale figures on the market, this is a steal. As many folks know, threeA sometimes releases pieces slightly behind schedule...but that's because they're perfecting every figure – just like the Slaughterhouse Dropcloth.

OVERALL: You don't need to be an Ashley Wood fan to like the Slaughterhouse Dropcloth. (Of course, it would help) If you like robots, 1:6 scale figures or just crazy quality designer toys...you'll want to add one of these to your collection. You'll definitely be seeing this figure again when we present our end of the year awards. It's a must-have piece.
