Background

It's been almost 20 years since Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton returned in what can be viewed as one of the greatest sequels ever - Terminator 2: Judgment Day. If you've never seen the film...you need to get on that. IMDB sums the plot as such:

The cyborg who once tried to kill Sarah Connor must now protect her teenage son, John Connor, from an even more powerful and advanced cyborg.

Hot Toys has the license (through Sideshow Collectibles) to produce one-sixth scale figures based on Terminator 2: Judgment Day. They've also produced collectible figures from The Terminator and Terminator Salvation. To date, they've released four figures from T2: T-1000, T-1000 in Sarah Connor disguise, T-800 and Sarah Connor. For purposes of this review, we'll be taking a closer look at the Sarah Connor collectible figure.

Packaging

The packaging for the Sarah Connor figure uses a reflective, metallic theme. It features an outer sleeve that has a portrait of the figure's face – with sunglasses – on the front and detailed information about the project on the back. The figure can be seen through a plastic windowpane. Inside, the Sarah Connor figure and all of the various accessories are secured inside interlocking plastic trays.

Our Opinion

Over the last several years, Hot Toys has climbed to the apex of the one-sixth scale collectible figure mountain. They've created revolutionary new figure details such as their Parallel Eyeball Rolling System, rubber skin to give figures a realistic look, and light-up features. The Sarah Connor figure is a good example of why Hot Toys has such a lead on the rest of the pack.

Let's look at the accessories first. The figure comes loaded with three firearms – pistol, shotgun and assault rifle. All of them are super detailed, but I would choose the shotgun as my personal favorite.

The display options are immense. You can swap out Sarah Connor's bangs and go with a hat and sunglasses, or you could throw in a cigarette with the special hand for holding her smoke. There are a total of six different hands, with some extra pegs in case you break either of the installed ones.

The outfit looks screen accurate and his highlighted by her weathered tactical vest. This looks very similar to the designs that we've been seeing in Sideshow's G.I. Joe line, so if you have any of those figures, you'll recognize the quality. The only issue I found with the figure comes with the piece of material that wraps around Miss Connor's left wrist. It ripped and had to be re-glued.

I had previously mentioned Hot Toys' rubber skin suits. Not only does it cover those unsightly arm joints, but it adds to the realism of the figure. If you look closely, you can see the scar on Sarah Connor's left shoulder. There are veins and shoulders sculpted into the rubber, and it also some faint paint splotches added to give the look or real skin.

But where Hot Toys truly shines is in the sculpting – and proper painting of the sculpting – field. The Sarah Connor one-sixth scale figure looks like Linda Hamilton (a young Linda Hamilton) jumped straight off of the movie screen. Hamilton has a very recognizable face, highlighted by her jawline and lips. I'm guessing that the Hot Toys sculptors laughed at this challenge, because they simply nailed it. The sculpt can be ruined by a poor paint job, and while there's not a lot of paint application on Sarah Connor's face, they've done an excellent job with the lips, eyes and eyebrows.

OVERALL: Terminator 2 is obviously the standout film from the Terminator franchise, so it would probably be the one most fans want figures from. Luckily, Hot Toys has provided collectors with some great options. The Sarah Connor one-sixth scale piece is one of the best portraits we've seen in a while. From top to bottom, it's some of the highest craftsmanship in the toy world.
