Background

Artist Anna Chambers must have a thing for food. Following her Plush Apple release, we got glimpses of an ear of corn design that she displayed at several shows. A few weeks back, Anna’s Mr. Corn plush was released unto the masses. Available in a pair of designs (Happy and Sad), Mr. Corn can now be husked and cooked up for dinner.

Our Opinion

I know that there are foodies out there who are also fans of plushies. Stuffed: A Plush Food Show took place several years back. We’ve seen meats, vegetables and fruits all turned into cute plush versions of themselves.

So, Mr. Corn is essentially made up of three different pieces – the ear, the husk and the silk. The ear is the yellow portion. It’s been sewn to look like individual kernels exist. The eyes and the mouth are embroidered on this area. The green husk is made up of three sections that can be folded up like a real piece of corn…or folded down as in most of these photos. The silk, which appears to be Mr. Corn’s hair, is yarn that’s slightly off-white.

Anna Chambers is among my favorite plush artists out there. She can turn something that you see everyday - like a piece of corn or an apple – into a plush masterpiece. Really…who else could not only replicate the shape of a piece of corn, but also tweak it just enough to create a cute little character? [EDIT: I guess Steff Bomb also released a Baby Corn Plush]

Quality-wise, I see absolutely no problems with Mr. Corn. It’s a well-constructed and well-sewn piece. Both the Happy and Sad Mr. Corn plushies are selling around $20 each. That’s a great price and well worth it, in my opinion.

You can pick one up at the following:

Frozen Empire Toys$19.99 each (Happy and Sad)
Tainted Visions$19.95 each (Happy and Sad)
