Background
You might have heard of the Iron Man film franchise starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (aka Iron Man). The highly anticipated sequel – aptly named Iron Man 2 – hit US theaters in May 2010. And Hot Toys was right on their heels with several new lines of film specific collectibles.
One of Hot Toys’ most popular lines is their Cosbaby series. So, of course, they would release a series of mini Cosbaby figures based on the Iron Man 2 movie license.

Packaging
The Iron Man 2 Cosbaby line is packaged in a blind box. Some retailers might be selling specific figures, and I’m guessing either they opened them or know the box layout. The box has all seven known figures shown, as well as the Iron Man 2 logo and a still image from the film. Inside, this is the first Cosbaby line that we’ve seen packaged in a dual plastic tray (as opposed to being bagged).
Our Opinion
I’m a fan of comic book movies…no matter how bad they are. (And there are a lot of bad ones) I actually thought that the first Iron Man film was really entertaining. I’ve yet to see Iron Man 2. But according to Rotten Tomatoes, critics appear to like the sequel. Toy collectors also seem to like the sequel, because we’re seeing a lot of Iron Man 2 licensed products.
Hot Toys released a line of Cosbaby toys based on the first Iron Man film. And while the Tony Stark and Iron Man figures might look familiar to collectors of that original line, there are several new characters specific to Iron Man 2.
You have two variants of the Iron Man suit - the Mark IV and Mark VI. I’m not an Iron Man aficionado, but it appears the main differences are the coloring on the body and the arc reactor (circular vs square). Tony Stark, in the Iron Man Mark IV suit, is also a character we saw from the previous film (although he was in the Mark III body then).
The other figures that make up this series are War Machine, James “Rhodey” Rhodes in War Machine suit (chase figure), Nick Fury, Black Widow and Whiplash.
I’m not a huge fan of the partially revealed characters, such as Tony Stark and James Rhodes. I’d be more apt to want to collect those specific figures if their faceplates actually moved. That’s probably why I rate the Iron Man and War Machine figures slightly higher.
Black Widow and Nick Fury are somewhat generic characters. They lack any accessories (you can make a case that Fury’s eye patch is an accessory) and really wouldn’t be recognizable sitting on your toy shelf.
The true standout of the Iron Man 2 Cosbaby Series is Whiplash. Hot Toys did a great job turning Mickey Rourke’s character into cute baby form (that’s hard to do). The details on this figure are great and he even comes with a pair of removable energy whips.
Overall, if you’re a fan of the Iron Man films, and want a change of pace from action figures, you’ll be happy with the Iron Man 2 Cosbaby Series. If you’re a casual fan, I’d suggest looking for a shop that sells specific figures (open boxes).
