Background

The first time I laid my eyes (and hands) upon one of Attaboy’s Sweet Talking Gooberry plush was way back at Toy Fair 2005. Rock America had plans of releasing the squealing and vibrating plush. Four years later, and now produced by Silver Sprocket rather than Rock America, Attaboy’s Gooberry plush has finally been released.

Each Gooberry has been freshly picked from a secret Gooberry Patch before ripening just for you! Like a newborn’s skull, their soft skin has yet to be fully formed, so a Gooberry is very impressionable and extra-sensitive to your each and every touch!

Please, please, DO NOT attempt to eat a Goobery, as they taste like strawberry whipped crème. DO NOT pull a Gooberry’s string, as each pull, although wholly satisfying to you, brings the Gooberry that much closer to a most painful death.

Our Opinion

It’s not often that a toy project is over four years in the making. Usually, they get forgotten about, lost in the shuffle, or artists move on to different projects. Luckily, Attaboy rode through the delay and was able to team up with Silver Sprocket to release a plush that looks the same as the prototype I saw back at Toy Fair 2005.

The fairly solid plush contains a small pull-string sound box. Once you pull the string and let go, the plush begins vibrating…until the string runs out. When you pull the string all the way, the Gooberry begins its kissing sound (3 kisses).

As soon as I heard the kissing sound, it brought back memories of a childhood toy. I had a “150 in One Electronic Project Kit”. If you’ve never seen one, it’s basically a little circuit board that kids can build circuits from a battery to do things like illuminate a light bulb, get an AM radio signal or do Morse Code. Every once in a while, you’d do a project from the book that just gave you weird sounds. I swear that one of those projects made the Gooberry’s kissing sound.

The other noise-making apparatus in the plush are the squeakers in its ears. Think dog toy squeakers. You have to squeeze them to make the sound, and there is only one located in the bottom part of each ear.

The design captures Attaboy’s earlier work perfectly (it was previewed way back around the time of the AXTRX vinyl). All of the details are embroidered and the stitching between the two fabrics is near perfect.

I would say that the Gooberry plush was definitely worth the wait. It brings a new spin to the plush collectible genre. I’m just hoping that Attaboy has more plushies up his sleeve…or in the garden.
