Background

Deglingos (de-GLING-goes): common noun. Animalos molto funnios and muy crazios. A unique species of contagiously quirky animals, the Deglingos speak their own language, which consists of finishing many words with “os”.

The Deglingos are high-end plushies from French designers Laurent Manceron and Stéphanie Dick. The plush line consists of 10 different characters, and, for purposes of this review, we’ll be looking at two of them: Ratos the Rat and Pikos the Hedgehog.

Tag

All of the Deglingos include the same tag, which actually resembles more of a booklet (12 pages long). The tag includes bios and photos of each of the ten different characters.

The Figure

Ratos: So crazios and always in a good mood, I’m the excitable guy with the big heart. Poilodos tells me I need to chill out and loosen my suspenders a bit, but I prefer to blow off steam by playing the drums with my tail. Not everyone appreciates this talent. Party poopos!

Ratos the Rat is approximately 10” tall (including ears). He’s wearing a pair of blue shorts with suspenders, and is also sporting a mean looking tattoo on his left arm.

Pikos: How do you like my coloured spikes? Trés fantasticos, no? I love them, too – but I need my fellow Deglingos to keep them looking fabulosos since I can’t reach them. Maybe you could help too? Just ruffle them around and they fall into place. Thanks, amigos!

Pikos the Hedgehog stands approximately 8.5” high. Rather than having spikes, this hedgehog has swatches of material across its back.

The Deglingos are made using 50 different kinds of fabric and string. Included in those is the burlap type material that is used for the base of the plush.

Our Opinion

The Deglingos have the look of a small-run, handmade plush line. They’re not. However, it appears that the same eye to quality and detail has been paid to this mass-produced series.

They’ve used 50 different types of fabric for the line. Those materials vary in texture and style. From corduroy to cotton to felt to burlap, they’re all covered. Then you add in the various colors that each fabric is, and you have plush that’s appealing to two of the senses (hint: not smell, sound or taste).

While the background story is semi-entertaining, what sets this animal-based plush line apart from others are the various materials. It gives each character a patched together look.

Looking at the two characters we’ve had a chance to see firsthand, you can see how these would be a favorite of young children.  But, with the addition of a solid, albeit soft, bottom…collectors can easily set these on their toy shelf.
