Last year, Tonner Doll Company announced that they’d be turning one of the video game world’s most popular vixens into a line of Tonner Collectible Figures.  Not so surprisingly, they introduced the Lara Croft Tomb Raider Legend license from Edios.

Following the release of Lara Croft in her iconic shorts and belly shirt outfit, Tonner released an alternative outfit, Excalibur accessory and the Full Throttle Lara Croft.

The Full Throttle Lara Croft, which we’ll be looking at in this review, is the second TCF based on everyone’s favorite Tomb Raider.

Packaging

On the outside, this figure uses the same packaging as the original Lara Croft TCF – black rectangular box with the Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Legend logo in silver.  Inside, the box is the same as most Tonner pieces: tissue paper, Styrofoam, ribbons and a hairnet…well protected.

The Figure

The Full Throttle Lara Croft Tonner Character Figure stands approximately 17” in height and has 14 points of articulation. The figure is based on the Eidos video game version of the character.

The piece comes dressed in a black Henley bodysuit (like what babies wear) with black faux leather motorcycle pants and a black motorcycle jacket with red and white stripes.  Her black faux leather boots are mid-shin high and feature working zippers.

The figure includes a dual hip holster for her two resin pistols and three resin grenades.  It also includes the standard Tonner display stand.  This Tonner Exclusive version is a limited edition of 300 pieces.

Our Opinion

The face sculpt for the Full Throttle Lara Croft is the same as Tonner’s original.  However, the hair is styled differently.  The original version has brown hair pulled back in a ponytail, while the Full Throttle piece has brown hair with a red tint that is styled in large braids.

The faux leather pants possibly need one more button in the butt area, since they (like most leather pants) are a tad form fitting.  But one issue those tight pants did alleviate is the loose knee joints that plagued the original Lara.  Of course, that was the first piece featuring Tonner’s new (read: bustier) body type.

So, how does this compare to the original?  We actually like this one a little bit better.  It’s slightly more expensive ($169.99 vs. $124.99) but it’s also much more limited (300 pcs vs. 4,000 pcs).  While the outfit isn’t Lara Croft’s traditional attire, it’s a well-produced version that should appeal to gamers who adore Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.
