Background

Tonner Doll Company continues their Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix line with the release of the house elf – Kreacher.  The grumpy old servant of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black has been produced as a high-quality articulated resin figure.

Authorized by Warner Bros., this is the second house-elf (Dobby being the first) to be realized as a Tonner Character Figure.

Packaging

The figure is packaged in the Harry Potter themed box.  However, since this figure is somewhat smaller, and needs more protection, the box is slightly shorter and thicker.  As well as being protected in a bag, the figure is encased in Styrofoam and has his hands wrapped (so a finger doesn’t snap off).

The Figure

Kreacher is a 10” tall solid resin figure.  He has five points of articulation (shoulders, legs and neck).  All of the joints appear to be held in place by some sort of tension (wire?).

The piece includes a display stand with two small holes in it.  Since Kreacher has two metal posts in his feet, you’ll need this stand to display him.  He is dressed in a tattered brown toga.  Or maybe it’s just an old potato sack with some holes cut out.  This figure run is currently open, so there’s no info about production numbers.

Our Opinion

Even though Tonner did produce the Dobby TCF, it seems that making a fully resin, articulated figure isn’t the norm for a company known for award winning dolls.  That being said…they nailed this one.

The sculpting work is super detailed.  Kreacher has wrinkles all over his body, there is some incredibly sculpted muscle tone and his face is made to look rough and weathered.  Just look at those ears and his turkey neck.

One thing you need to remember is that resin is a little less forgiving than vinyl or PVC plastic.  So beware of dropping this piece.

I would have liked to see how the figure worked without the metal posts in its feet.  It might be the lone complaint folks will have with the Kreacher TCF, but it’s somewhat minor because this isn’t something you’d play with.
