Background

The 80’s inspired Z.O.M.B.I.E. mini figures is the newest line created by the folks at October Toys.  Obviously modeled after the popular M.U.S.C.L.E. wrestling figure line, the flesh eating undead are slightly creepier.

Standing for Zillions of Mutated Bodies Infecting Everyone!, Series 1 contains five different characters (Rockabilly, Bathtime, School Girl, Ape and School Boy) in four different colorways (toxic green, pale blue, white and glow-in-the-dark).

Packaging

The Z.O.M.B.I.E. line is carded and bagged.  All of the colorways use the same packaging, but the clear bag lets you differentiate.  While it’s definitely possible to display these in the package, I’d suggest letting them out to feast on brains.

The Figures

Z.O.M.B.I.E. Series 1 is made up of five different characters (Bathtime, Rockabilly, School Boy, Ape and School Girl), with each measuring around 2” in height.  They are made of soft plastic, so you can move arms and legs (they’ll just go right back to normal though).

There are several colorways to choose from, four to be exact.  You can pick between toxic green, pale blue, white or glow-in-the-dark.  The green and blue are probably your “normal” colors, while white would be good for customizers (good luck!) and everyone loves glow-in-the-dark.

Our Opinion

I was a kid back in the 80’s…and had a fairly impressive toy collection.  I blame my mother for selling off everything at various garage sales.  Among those things that were pawned off was a near complete set of M.U.S.C.L.E. men.  Why do I mention this?  Well, if you were a fan of those old school wrestling figures, you should definitely dig their zombie equivalent.

While they might look like cheap little toys (they actually are cheap at only $1 per figure), they’re impressively sculpted.  These guys are tiny, so sculpting probably was tedious.  October Toys could have gotten away without details like sculpted fingers, muscle tone, etc.  But they should be recognized for some good work.

The only thing I would like to see is maybe a peach (M.U.S.C.L.E. toned) colorway as well as a painted version.  While the white could be used to customize, I’d prefer to let them do the difficult job of painting a 2” tall figure.

Currently, if you pick up all 4 sets from October Toys, you will receive a set of nine trading cards from nine different artists.  Each card contains artwork inspired by the Z.O.M.B.I.E. characters.
