Background

David Horvath, the creator of Uglydolls, Little Bony and plenty other popular characters, has launched his first picture book – Bossy Bear.  While Bossy Bear is produced by Hyperion Books for Children, grown-ups will also find the domineering blue bear a comical read.

Bossy Bear is very bossy.  He wants everything HIS way, and he wants it NOW!

In conjunction with the release of the book, and David’s reading tour, Toy2R has developed and released the vinyl version of Bossy Bear.

Packaging

The figure is packaged in a partial window-front box.  If you’re a fan of seeing 2D work along with your 3D toy, you’ll obviously be pleased.  You can see how much Horvath artwork is peppered around the box.

The Figure

The 4” tall rotocast vinyl Bossy Bear has one point of articulation at
the neck.  He's wearing his trademark yellow crown and red cape, which are
both sculpted as a part of the figure.

There are 4 variants of Bossy Bear, and they differ in the
direction the figure’s eyes face.  In a case of 12 figures, you’ll find
9 whose eyes face straight ahead, 1 looking straight up, 1 looking to
the side and 1 looking up and to the side.

Our Opinion

I have to admit that I haven’t picked up the Bossy Bear book yet.  But
you don’t have to read the book (or be able to read at all) to enjoy
the vinyl figure.  Being produced by Toy2R (and not a big “corporate”
company) means that the toy will be appealing to designer toy
collectors.

The variant eyes are not something new, as Mezco did that with their
Family Guy line.  But it makes much more sense than color variants and
allows collectors to choose their favorite eye direction.

The figure itself is a great 3D likeness of the demanding little bear.
Being sculpted as one piece means that the paintwork around the crown
and cape has to be fairly tight.  That work is slightly above average.
What IS impressive is the paintwork on the face.  They did an amazing
job recreating the Horvath look and all of the lines look great.

If you’re looking for a figure that’s a little larger, Toy2R will be
releasing the 10” tall Bossy Bear at San Diego Comic Con this summer.
