The Blythe 5th Anniversary event just took place (June 23 - July 2) at Spiral Garden in Aoyama.
This years theme was "Darling Diva". Fashion designers, doll creators, illustrators, and musicians alike, all participated in the event to create a one of a kind Blythe. In addtion to all of the fashion show excitement, the very first Blythe Beauty Contest was held. Nine talented teams were selected as finalists from the many teams that entered from around the world! The winning categories were: Grand Prix, First Runner Up, Second Runner Up. They were all selected by a celebrity panel of Blythe professionals, including Junko Wong, Gina Garan, Splash & Sammy, @nai, Saburo Watanabe and the amazing Momolita! Like most other beauty contests there was an audience chosen winner called "Miss Popularity".
Below are images of the winning dolls, which prize the won, and the team name.
Grand Prix Winner
"Gentle River" by Team Sibley
1st Runner Up
"Favorite Color" by Aketsun
2nd Runner Up
"Merry Hippy" by LA LA LA LA Factory
"Vanilla" by Miele Dolce
The most exciting thing about this contest is normal Blythe fans have the chance to show off their talent at doll customizing and sewing. The Grand Prix team also won the opportunity to have their doll produced into a CWC produced Blythe doll.
I would have told you the name of Doktor A's latest custom in the title...but I didn't think Professor Whistlecraft's Industrial Copper-plated
Marvel would fit up there. I must say...he impresses yet again. I have no clue how the good Dok is able to work his magic...
The July 8th Munny Show 2 has passed and it was a worthy
sequel to Überbot's first blank figure contest. There were almost 140
entries from some of Central Florida's most creative artists and outside entries
from as far away as the UK. Over 1,000 attendees fought large crowds
and minimal parking to sneak a peek at the creative Munny entries and attempt to
choose a favorite. Gold, Silver and Bronze were decided, in a seriously
close competition, by ballot voting in which they received over 800 ballots in 4
hours. Best Paint and Most Creative were chosen by Team Überbot along with
special judges Nakanari, the designer toy master, and comic art genius Phil Noto.
You can check out all of the entries, and also purchase some through Überbot's special Munny Show website. You'll also be able to see all of the winners!
Toynami will be offering this San Diego Comic Con exclusive Stitches plush doll. He is from the Precious Miseries line of toys.
Big StiTcheS is very fun-loving, crazy and has a good temperament. He is usually very easy to get along with, but has a huge complex about his pom-pom.
(Don't touch it.)
DKE Toys (Booth 4730) will have a number of exclusives and toys available at San Diego this year. The Black and Hypnotic versions of Span of Sunset's Cheshire Cat will be available for purchase (50 of each). Also, look for David Horvath's Mothman figure.
Dan "Wavedog" Fenelon will be showing his custom work at ArtIsZen Arts in New Hope, PA throughout the month of August. So, if you'll be in the shopping capital of Pennsylvania...you'll want to check out this show as I'm sure it'll rock the house.
If you'll be making your way to San Diego via the Seattle area, you'll want to check out the Munny Show at the Gilt Edge Society Friday July 14th. The show will be from 7:00 pm to 12:00 am and located at 2312 4th St. in Seattle. It will be curated by Kristen from Schmancy Toys, so you'll want to check it out.
Crazy Label is a fairly new toy company founded by the one and only Wookie. They currently have a number of projects in the wings, but their first vinyl figure is known as Treeson.
The Treeson character is the main character from an illustrated story by the Hong Kong artist, Bubi Au Yeung. Treeson and Ren is a story about a creature that was raised by trees. Ren finds him with a tree branch sticking out from his heart. The story is about the friendship that the two form and how they face their past.
Treeson is packaged in a bright green, windowless box. A brief background of the character is written on the rear of the box. Also, there are drawings of Treeson, as well as some interesting reading.
The 5” Treeson is made of rotocast vinyl. The figure comes with a removable tree branch and is limited to a run of 500 pieces. If you look at the end of the branch that is inserted into Treeson, you can see his heart. With a figure that is completely full of little spikes, you won’t want to let him sitting around of the floor to step on. Don’t worry though; the spikes aren’t actually sharp.
