Creatus Maximus, a new toy company that will launch their first line at SDCC, is set to introduce Smart Bombs. Ken Lilly, formerly of Palisades Toys, has designed these figures after atomic bombs. Hmm...a little morbid, but the designs are pretty cool. Be sure to check them out at Comic Con.
I had mentioned something about a new product to pretty up your iPod a while back. Tinpod is not only a designer case decorated with cool artwork...but it also protects your iPod from spills and drops. It's about the size of a mint case, fits snuggly in your pocket and will protect your MP3 player. And for only $16.95...you can pick one up (3 versions available).
At Comic Con, Blackwater Toys will be at Booth #4636 (sharing it with Toy2R) with some brand new products...actually...their first products. They will be debuting their Kuggs and Mini Kuggs lines. Can't wait until the Con to see what these toys look like? Well...Blackwater has uploaded some videos to YouTube that you will definitely want to check out.
Thanks to our friend Robert from Kung Fu Toys, we have some great photos from Joe Ledbetter's Attack of the Mutant Bunnies show. The opening reception took place Tuesday July 11th at Gallery1988 in Los Angeles and featured a ton of new bunny paintings from Mr. Ledbetter.
The Blythe5th Anniversary event just took place (June 23 - July 2) at Spiral Garden in Aoyama.
This years theme was "Darling Diva". Fashion designers, doll creators, illustrators, and musicians alike, all participated in the event to create a one of a kind Blythe. In addtion to all of the fashion show excitement, the very first Blythe Beauty Contest was held. Nine talented teams were selected as finalists from the many teams that entered from around the world! The winning categories were: Grand Prix, First Runner Up, Second Runner Up. They were all selected by a celebrity panel of Blythe professionals, including Junko Wong, Gina Garan, Splash & Sammy, @nai, Saburo Watanabe and the amazing Momolita! Like most other beauty contests there was an audience chosen winner called "Miss Popularity".
Below are images of the winning dolls, which prize the won, and the team name.
Grand Prix Winner "Gentle River" by Team Sibley
1st Runner Up "Favorite Color" by Aketsun
2nd Runner Up "Merry Hippy" by LA LA LA LA Factory
Miss Popularity "Vanilla" by Miele Dolce
The most exciting thing about this contest is normal Blythe fans have the chance to show off their talent at doll customizing and sewing. The Grand Prix team also won the opportunity to have their doll produced into a CWC produced Blythe doll.
I would have told you the name of Doktor A's latest custom in the title...but I didn't think Professor Whistlecraft's Industrial Copper-plated
Marvel would fit up there. I must say...he impresses yet again. I have no clue how the good Dok is able to work his magic...
The July 8th Munny Show 2 has passed and it was a worthy
sequel to Überbot's first blank figure contest. There were almost 140
entries from some of Central Florida's most creative artists and outside entries
from as far away as the UK. Over 1,000 attendees fought large crowds
and minimal parking to sneak a peek at the creative Munny entries and attempt to
choose a favorite. Gold, Silver and Bronze were decided, in a seriously
close competition, by ballot voting in which they received over 800 ballots in 4
hours. Best Paint and Most Creative were chosen by Team Überbot along with
special judges Nakanari, the designer toy master, and comic art genius Phil Noto.
