The online voting for the 9th Annual Designer Toy Awards (DTAs) is currently open. The finalists have been announced and now it's up to the public to vote on your favorites. There are six categories open to the public vote, and the voting will end on May 16th 2019 at Noon ET. And don't worry...you won't need to vote for Plastic and Plush...because we haven't made the voting - holding true to our moniker of "The Award-Losing Plastic and Plush".
From the twisted imagination of Japan's own Tokyo Jesus, comes the Tayū (太夫) resin figure.
In order to become an Oiran, a woman had to be educated in a range of skills, including the traditional arts of sadō (Japanese tea ceremony), ikebana (flower arranging), and calligraphy. The highest rank of Oiran was the tayū (太夫). The Tayū’s secrets will soon be revealed, but in this moment you can revel in her crystal beauty and elegance, for she will keep your secrets and protect you from the darkest demons.
Sculpted by artist Tokyo Jesus, the Tayū - Crystal Blood Edition stands in at 12 inches tall and is cast in clear resin with pink coral and red color streaks. Produced by and available from Clutter Studios, the figure will drop for pre-orders beginning on Tuesday April 9th 2019 at 2PM ET. It will be priced at $333.00.
Clutter has dropped the OctoDrop Mini by American Gross. The newest addition to the Octo family, the OctoDrop Mini stands in at 2 inches tall. Hand-sculpted by artist American Gross, the internal Taku Taku (Octo) is cast in a super glow-in-the-dark teal and purple gossamer resin with an external pale blue skin. The Marshin' King is invading the Earth and is ready to toast some dogs with the human race!
From the mind of world-renowned sculptor Jason Freeny, this 8-inch tall Marshin' King figure will be available to purchase beginning on Friday March 29th 2019 at 2PM ET. Based on Freeny's original sculpt, this intergalactic being arrives displayed on 6-inch wide hand-painted base. It's been produced in resin by Clutter (also where you can purchase it). Limited to a run of 10 pieces, you can pick them up for $250.00 each.

Blobrainopus is a 3-inch tall clear vinyl mash-up custom of a Blobpus interior brain unit on a Plaseebo Skulloctopus body. It's filled with space junk guts and a motion-activated color-changing LED unit with replaceable batteries. The Coolie Ogre is chained by the neck to the Blobrainopus. The Plaseebo “Gnaw” head is on a nasty PLT “Coolie” body. The head is covered with a hand made custom cloth hood. He has a motion-activated color-changing LED unit with replaceable batteries. Both are painted with Monster Kolor sprays and signed by Bob.
General Octo-Kyoufu And The Sum
General Octo-Kyoufu is a 3.5-inch tall clear vinyl mash-up custom of a Mike Pro aka A Rare Form “General Kyoufu” head on a Plaseebo Skulloctopus body. It's filled with space junk guts and a motion-activated color-changing LED unit with replaceable batteries. The SUM is chained by the neck to the General. The Plaseebo “SUM” figure with blue inset eyes and a switched motion-activated color-changing LED unit with replaceable batteries. Both are painted with Monster Kolor sprays and signed by Bob.

With categories like Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Toy of the Year, and Artist of the Year (among many others) the DTAs highlight the year's best designs, concepts and accomplishments by both veterans and newcomers in the diverse world of Designer Toys.
