Background

This past Friday (August 26th 2011), Onell Design dropped a number of new Glyos System Series figures, including their new Glyan character. There were seven new Glyan color variants released, with three of them being solid colors: clear, black, GID green. The other four were the multicolor (and their inverse) Relgost (Seafoam Green and Grayish Blue) and Esedeth (Ochre Brown and Sand).

I picked up the Esedeth Desert Assault Team Glyan. This new character is made up of 25 different pieces and they include a bonus Neo Sincroid head (that's the one that looks slightly human).

Packaging

I forgot to take any photos of the packaging before busting into the Glyan figure. These figures are bagged and carded in similar fashion to other Glyos figures. There's some Glyos inspired artwork on the header card.

Our Opinion

My initial thought when I saw the Glyan figure in person was that it looked a little smaller than your average Glyos figure. It's about a quarter of an inch shorter than, say, a Buildman figure. But it's also slightly narrower through the shoulders. I think what gives the appearance is that Glyan is very straight, while Buildman, Exellis, Pheyden, etc. have bent arms and legs.

All of these parts are interchangeable with other Glyos figures. If you're a fan of Onell Design, you've probably seen the crazy customs that Matt Doughty puts together using Glyos pieces. And the Glyan sports that same joint system.

I think I can reveal that Glyan has overtaken Buildman as my favorite Glyos character. There's a definite Metroid (Samus Aran) feel to the figure. Each one includes an additional Neo Sincroid head and a trusty little laser gun. And that's exactly what the characters needed...weapons. I'm sure there was a way to construct weapons using other pieces, but including one pre-built helps us less-imaginative Glyos collectors.

If I remember correctly, these are the first of the PVC Glyos figures to feature a Tampo design. Just check out the figure's right shoulder. It appears that the different colorways will feature slightly different stamps, so that's something to look for.

Overall, I think the Glyan figures are well worth the $8.00 you're going to spend to pick one up. They're possibly the most complete character that Onell Design has produced. And you can always take it apart and reassemble it in one of many different ways.

You can pick one up at the following:
