REVIEW: Wapsi Square – Tepoz

pt tepoz 01

Background

Here's Wapsi Square's tepoztecal, also known as Tepoz the Aztec God of Alcohol. He's always ready for the party and he definitely brings his own booze as he can manifest drinks out of thin air! he may be short in stature but he really comes through if you need to wet your whistle!

Patch Together has released another one of artist Paul Taylor's Wapsi Square characters as a small-run resin figure. This time around, it's the diminutive Tepoz.

Our Opinion

The Tepoz figure is one of the smaller resin pieces that we've seen Patch Together churn out. At only 3.25” in height (and bright blue), it reminds me of those old-school PVC Smurf figurines from Schleich. Yes..I had way too many of those as a youngster.

But the Tepoz character is from Paul Taylor's Wapsi Square comic. We've seen Patch Together produce several other characters from the popular webcomic. Those were a lot larger than Tepoz, but that's because the character in the comic is only one foot tall (hence, it's probably to scale with the rest of the line).

Sculpting-wise, the God of Alcohol has a few minor issues. The silly grin on the mouth looks good, but the face might be a little thinner than the illustrated Tepoz. I noticed that they actually sculpted the individual teeth, rather than simply a line across separating the white space. Also, the beer mug just sort of stops. You can se the beer inside on the front, but the rest of the mug is gray. Finally, you might need to add some glue to the neck hole where the figure's head is inserted.

OVERALL: I know there are many fans of the Wapsi Square webcomic. And I'm sure those folks are super excited to collect all of the characters in resin form from Patch Together. The Tepoz figure is a decent replication of the illustrated character, with a few sculpting flaws/misses.

The big thing, though, is that the Tepoz resin will run you $29.95. The Monica in headphones 6” resin from Wapsi Square and Patch Together has a pre-order price of $39.95. I would have pegged this as a $9.95 to $14.95 figure.
