REVIEW: Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker
Sideshow Collectibles has added the Clone Wars Anakin Skywalker to their Star Wars Heroes of the Rebellion line. This 1/6th scale figure is available in both a regular version as well as a Sideshow Exclusive, which includes a special accessory. We'll be taking a look at the Exclusive version for purposes of this review.
A child born of prophecy, possibly conceived by the will of the Force itself, Anakin Skywalker has left an indelible mark on the history of the galaxy, leading it through periods of light and darkness. Discovered as a slave child on Tatooine, he was brought into the Jedi Order and quickly ascended to become one of its brightest stars.

The figure is packaged in what has become Sideshow's traditional Star Wars packaging. It features pictures of the Anakin figure on all four sides, with still photos from Star Wars: The Clone Wars on the back panel. Inside, there is plenty of background info on the magnetically sealed front flap. And you can get a look at the figure through the plastic windowpane.
This figure is based on Anakin Skywalker as portrayed in the CGI animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The animated Anakin is based on the image of Hayden Christiansen from Star Wars episodes 2 and 3. So, this guy is sorta like making a copy of a copy.
The Clone Wars figure is not supposed to be an ultra-realistic sculpt like the two previously released Sideshow-produced 1/6 scale Anakin Skywalker figures. It presents a little more of a stylized look to the character. But it's not really true to the CGI animated Skywalker, since it's a smooth sculpt and not angular like the version you see in the cartoon.
With that being said, I like this sculpt. And the paintwork on the face is nice and toned-down (not too glossy). As far as the outfit, it's a great representation of the on-screen Anakin. The gray shoulder pads ride up a little due to his shirt. That's really the only issue with the figure.
The accessories are fairly sparse for the regular edition of this figure (a couple of lightsabers and a few extra hands). Sideshow often releases a “Sideshow Exclusive” edition, which includes an additional accessory. Often, it's a special display base...but the Anakin Skywalker figure includes possibly the best exclusive accessory – a rotocast vinyl Rotta the Hutt. And the best part of the 3” tall Rotta the Hutt is the paintwork on his metallic eyes.
OVERALL: Star Wars fans are probably split on Anakin Skywalker as shown through Episodes II and III. Most of the dislike is that the character is portrayed as whiney and obnoxious. So, collectors might not be apt to purchase a figure based on the character. But they'd be missing out on a pretty good 1/6th scale Star Wars figure...especially if you can get your hands on the Sideshow Exclusive version.
