Background

Tonner Doll Company re-released a number of their female DC Stars line in a series of “Deluxe” figures. The difference is essentially two-fold, a slightly thicker athletic female body and shinier attire. One of the latest releases is the Joker’s right-hand woman – Harley Quinn.

The character first appeared in Batman: The Animated Series and become so popular that she was included in several Batman comic books and graphic novels. Harley Quinn – as Dr. Harleen Quinzel – interned at Arkham Asylum, where she became fascinated with the Joker. This led to her donning a jester’s outfit and joining up with the Joker’s crew.

Our Opinion

It was a little over two years ago that we reviewed the original Harley Quinn Tonner Character Figure on the site. I was a fan, rating it a 9 out of 10. The lone complaint I had was that the ponytail hanging out the back of Harley’s hood wasn’t “illustration/cartoon accurate”. If you look at the Deluxe version, that hasn’t changed. I would have liked a hairdo in pigtails that you could then put into the points of her jester hat.

I want to point out that I messed up while dressing the Harley Quinn Deluxe TCF. I put the boots and gloves on the incorrect feet and hands – they should be opposite of the color of bodysuit color. I was thrown off my game after my wife asked me “Are you having fun dressing your dolls?”

The outfit is what verifies the “Deluxe” moniker. Rather than having cloth and vinyl decal accents, there is faux leather and all sorts of shiny and sparkly additions (diamonds and corset). But while the larger athletic body looks good on some of the other super heroes, Harley Quinn is a fairly petite character. So I actually prefer the slightly smaller body style for her.

With that being said, I’ve rated this figure slightly higher than the original. Why? It could be the higher quality outfit…or it could be the athletic body + a spandex bodysuit…
