REVIEW: MLB Lubies (Part 2)
We previously showed you the first four MLB Lubies from Series 1 of Rocket USA’s new line. Now, we’re going to take a look at the four remaining (minus the New York Yankees) teams from the first round of MLB Lubies. So, if you’re a fan of the Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners or St. Louis Cardinals…you’re all set. If you’re a fan of one of the other 22 teams that we’ve yet to review, don’t worry…Rocket USA is releasing all 30 MLB clubs.
Manufacturer: Rocket USA
Dimensions: 5” round
Designs: Chicago White Sox, Detroit Tigers, Seattle Mariners, St. Louis Cardinals
Each of the MLB Lubies includes an attached tag that features an illustration of the home ballpark on the front of it. Inside, the tag has the team’s logo on the left side and a “Did You Know?” fact on the right side.
I’m definitely digging these designs a little more than the previous four MLB Lubies – reviewed in Part 1. First of all, with the exception of the Chicago White Sox, they use team specific animal mascots. So rather than just getting a bear wearing a home and away jersey…you’re getting a tiger wearing Detroit Tigers apparel. And you actually don’t have two versions of each of these figures…there’s only one of them.
Rocket USA has plans to continue releasing team specific mascots, where applicable. And if that means releasing a new plush design (such as a stingray for the Tampa Bay Rays), they will add that plain animal character to their next series of Lubies. They’ve already done that with the cardinal, although there are some slight differences between the MLB cardinal and the Lubies Series 3 cardinal.
Speaking of the St. Louis Cardinals plush. It was the lone plush that I found an issue with. It appears that the eyes are actually different. If you take a close look at the photo, you can see a ring of white around only one of the eyes. I would have to guess that this was a goof. Maybe a wrong eye was put in at the factory.
This quartet does include my favorite of Series 1 – the Mariner Moose. Most casual fans probably have no idea that the Mariners mascot is a moose, but Rocket USA has examined both the team’s logo and their mascot in coming up with designs for the MLB Lubies line.
