Packaging

Sideshow’s Indiana Jones line features packaging similar to their Star Wars and G.I. Joe series. It features a magnetic front flap with a photograph of the dressed figure on it. The rear of the box has another photo of the figure, along with several stills from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Inside, the figure and accessories are packaged in separate dual, interlocking plastic trays. Behind those trays lies poster artwork from the 1989 film.

Our Opinion

If you’re a fan of the Indiana Jones films, you’ll be glad to see that Sideshow has released a non-Indy character. And there’s probably not a more memorable character than his pops – Henry Jones, Sr.. Although, the little kid who played Data in The Goonies would rank right up there.

This is actually the second 1/6 scale version of the elder Dr. Jones that has been released – the first coming from Medicom. But there really is no comparison. The main difference is the head sculpt. The sculpting work on Sideshow’s Henry Jones, Sr. is close to perfection. The highlights are the wrinkles on his face, the work around the mouth and the facial hair. It all combines to form the best Sean Connery sculpt that we’ve ever seen.

The figure includes a number of accessories, but the two most impressive have to be the briefcase and the good doctor’s eyeglasses. The briefcase is rather weighty, as can be seen in some of the above photos where the figure is slightly tilted. The straps can actually be unbuckled so you can insert the folded umbrella (like the photo).

One of the most difficult objects to do correctly is a pair of glasses. It really doesn’t matter what size toy you’re looking at…glasses are nearly impossible to get right. That was…until now. These fit perfectly on Dr. Jones’ face and look pretty realistic. It could be that they don’t have a frame – just a nosepiece and arms attached to the lenses. Nonetheless, they nailed it.

The Grail isn’t as impressive as some of the other accessories, as the colors seem a little off. But the diary looks like the actual prop from the movie. The outfit is also screen accurate. It’s a dead ringer for the clothing that Connery wore in the film. The only issue I had is the plastic bowtie. It actually popped off the elastic band, and needed to be superglued back in place.

Overall, this is the best figure from the Indiana Jones line…and maybe one of the best 1/6 scale figures that Sideshow has released. It’s really that good.
