Background

Sideshow Collectibles recently began shipping their latest Militaries of Star Wars 12 Inch figure release – Admiral Piett. Known from one of the more recognizable scenes from the original Star Wars trilogy, the not-so-good Admiral adds depth to Sideshow’s growing 1:6 scale line.

As an attentive Captain aboard Vader's Super Star Destroyer, the Executor, Piett was more creatively minded than his by-the-manual superior, Admiral Ozzel. After Ozzel committed a fatal mistake during the hunt for the Rebels, Darth Vader rather dramatically 'dismissed' Ozzel, and promoted Piett to Admiral. Piett served in this capacity during the Battle of Endor, where he perished when an A-wing starfighter crashed into the Executor's bridge.

Packaging

Sideshow’s Star Wars packaging consistently ranks up near the top in terms of quality and content. It has scenes of the character straight from the Star Wars films. There’s also background reading about the character on the inside panel.

Our Opinion

Collectors appreciate that Sideshow continues to fill out their 12 inch Star Wars line with new characters. We all love Han Solo and Luke Skywalker, but there are so many iterations that make sense. By introducing many of these ancillary characters to the fray, they’ve kept interest in the line. With Admiral Piett, you have a character that is fairly well known. It’s not simply a generic Imperial officer.

One thing that I like, which Sideshow has begun doing, is that they ship this figure with both a plastic and a cloth hat. Personally, I like cloth one a little better. But I am sure there are some folks who love the plastic version. It’s a nice added extra though.

As far as accessories, this figure is on the lighter side. It makes sense, as the character really wasn’t shown with weapons or specific items. So getting the two hats, two sets of hands and two gun seems like a good deal. It would have been nice to have holster, but I guess that wouldn’t have been screen accurate.

Sideshow did a fairly good job of the Piett facial sculpt. The actor – Kenneth Colley – has bags under his eyes and defined lines on his face. The one area that doesn’t look that great is the hair…and especially the hairline. It looks like he’s wearing a really bad toupee. It’s a fairly minor issue, because you’ll never really display the figure minus one of the two included hats.

Overall, it’s another solid 1:6 scale Star Wars figure release from Sideshow. The company continues a recent trend of releasing new characters from what’s – still - probably the most collected license.
